Tamborine Mountain College’s intention is to provide personalised education, catering for individual optimum learning with a ‘family’ like environment. The College has set standards in the area of academics with a strong focus on core curriculum. Our academic program seeks to create confident students who develop into independent learners.

Early Learning Centre

The Pre-Prep Program is an Approved Kindergarten Program which follows the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and the Early Years Learning Framework. The program is led by a degree qualified Early Childhood Teacher.

The guidelines promote learning and development through a play-based curriculum that embraces learning through discovery, exploration, real-life engagement, routines and transitions.

Enrolling in the Pre-Prep Program at TMC will also give you priority access into Prep at TMC.

Prep to Year 2

The Tamborine Mountain College educational Prep Program is a hands-on, discovery based course designed to stimulate children’s interests in a wide range of areas. Through social interaction and participation in activities suited to their needs, children enhance their emotional, social and intellectual growth.

Prep contributes to the continuing growth of young children’s knowledge and understanding of themselves and the world around them. Learning and play experiences create an awareness of the changing world and foster positive personal and social attitudes. Opportunities are also provided for the development of healthy living habits and creativity.

Year 3 to Year 6

Challenging teaching and learning activities in the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science, History and the Social Sciences, Digital Technology, Health and Physical Education, The Arts, and French Culture and Language contribute to an all-encompassing curriculum. Excursions and special events are held throughout the year to enhance the learning process.

Computer access is incorporated across the curriculum, at all year levels, with a sequential program to develop appropriate skills. The use of online learning initiatives enables the students to construct meaning, present knowledge and enhance their learning techniques.

Year 7 & 8

For Junior Secondary years 7 and 8, the College has a core curriculum of English, Maths, History and the Social Sciences, Science, Art, French, Drama, Digital Technology and Physical Education that provides a holistic grounding for Senior Secondary Education.

Year 9 & 10

For Junior Secondary's Year 9, the College has a core curriculum of English, Maths, History, Business, Science, Art, French, Drama, STEM and Physical Education that provides a holistic grounding for senior secondary education.

Senior Secondary's Year 10 is the foundation year for senior schooling. The focus is on developing an individual career SET plan to assist with decision making for subject selection at senior level. Certificate courses and TAFE options (which may include work experience, school-based traineeships and apprenticeships) are explored as part of the College’s program.

Year 11 & 12

The government's “learning or earning” laws require students to complete Year 10 at school and go on to complete a further two years of education and training, either into Senior schooling or the workforce on a full timebasis.

At Tamborine Mountain College students will work towards a Senior Statement. There are two pathways for students to choose from:

1. Entrance into tertiary study or;
2. A school-based traineeship (SBT) with the goal being the attainment of the QCE and then an apprenticeship or trade, post Year 12.

Roar

Roar provides students with strategies to assist with self-confidence, study skills, pathways planning, goal setting, managing relationships and coping with challenges and change. Students take part in Roar from Year 7 to Year 12.

Arts Excellence

Tamborine Mountain College recognises the value of The Arts in helping students to develop perseverance and self-discipline, enhance their ability to think creatively and analytically, and provide an outlet for emotional expression. Students are able to participate in Drama, Music and Visual Arts and have many opportunities throughout the year to showcase their Arts talents at school and external events, in particular the annual ArtsFest in Term 3.

Sports

Our inclusive internal sport program that allows students to choose from a variety of sports. The sporting groups in Secondary School are arranged with mixed genders and age groups and the focus is on fun, fitness, skill development and game play.

In the Junior School the sporting provision is based in year groups and all students participate in a wide variety of sports.

Beyond internal sport TMC participates in the Hinterland Independent Alliance (HIA) and over the course of the year we participate in sporting events against the Hills International College and The Kooralbyn International School.

OSHC & VC

Our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) provides a safe and supportive out-of-school learning environment where Pre-Prep to Primary School-aged students can participate in activities that develop their social and academic skills.

The OSHC service also includes an interest-based program that follows the “My Time Our Place” curriculum guidelines.
