Beginning of Term 2 Insider

02 May 2025

Gold Rush Living Wax Museum & Term 2 Homework Project
This term, Year 5 students are taking part in an exciting integrated unit combining HASS, Drama and Technology, all centred around the Australian Gold Rush—a pivotal period in Australia’s history.

As part of this unit, students have been assigned a Term 2 Homework Project – HASS, which they will work on at home over the coming weeks. This week, we went through the project booklet in class and explained what is expected. Each student should have brought their booklet home (though it may still be hiding in the bottom of their bag!). The project involves researching a historical figure or character from the goldfields, such as miners, entrepreneurs, immigrants, Indigenous Australians, or other significant individuals from the era. Students also chose their Gold Rush character this week, so they can now begin their research and preparations.

The culmination of this unit will be our Gold Rush Living Wax Museum, held on Wednesday 4th June (Week 7). Students will bring their chosen character to life through costume, storytelling and performance in the form of a “living waxwork” presentation. This will be a dress-up day, where students come to school in clothing reflective of the mid to late 1800s to help them truly step into the shoes of their character.

This engaging and creative experience will allow students to demonstrate their learning in an authentic way, while developing skills in historical research, critical thinking, public speaking, and historical empathy.

We encourage families to support students with their project and costume preparation. A little time spent each week will help students feel confident and well-prepared by Wednesday 4th June.

We can’t wait to see the enthusiasm, effort and creativity on display at the Living Wax Museum! We will be inviting Year 5 families to attend the event, more information will be shared closer to the date.

Thank you for your continued support,
Mr. Schönherr & Mr. Forbes

Calling for Plastic Water Bottles
We’re collecting empty plastic water bottles for an upcoming class activity and would love your help! The thin plastic bottles, such as those from Coles or Woolworths home-brand water, work best. If you have any at home, please rinse and send them in with your child. Thank you for your support.

Year 5 & 6 Camp
Years 5 and 6 had a wonderful adventure at Lake Ainsworth—three days filled with fun, challenges, and unforgettable memories!

Throughout the camp, students took part in a range of exciting activities including Archery Tag, Rock Climbing, Beach Activities, Mini Olympics, Sailing, Paddle Boarding, and a relaxed Movie Night to wind down. It was fantastic to see the students stepping outside their comfort zones, supporting each other, and having so much fun along the way.

Photos are available in this Yr5 Camp folder and will be accessible for two weeks.

Mother’s Day Stall – Wednesday 7th May
Our Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Wednesday 7th May. All gifts are $10, and students are invited to bring this amount if they would like to purchase a special gift for Mum or another important person in their life. There will be a lovely selection of gifts available—perfect for celebrating Mother’s Day!

There may also be an opportunity for students to purchase a second gift, so if your child would like to do so, please feel free to send an additional $10.
