2026 Term 2 - Newsletter two

27 May 2026

Welcome to Newsletter 2

As we move deeper into the term, Year 5 has become busier than ever with assessments, sporting events, projects, and exciting learning opportunities taking place across the college. It has been wonderful seeing students continue to grow in confidence, resilience, and independence as they take on new challenges both inside and outside the classroom. From preparing for the Living Wax Museum to competing in athletics and continuing our Powerful Science project, there has certainly been plenty happening. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support from our families, especially during this busy time of the term.

Gold Rush Living Wax Museum

Our Gold Rush Living Wax Museum is nearly here and the excitement is building. Students are due to hand in their projects this Friday and will perform next Wednesday during the Wax Museum display at school. As the performances get closer, many students are beginning to feel a few nerves, so any support from home would be greatly appreciated. Please encourage your child to practise their speech regularly, assist them with recording and uploading their speech to their Google Slides assignment on Google Classroom, and help organise any costumes or props they may need. We are looking forward to seeing the students bring their historical characters to life.

Athletics Carnival

Our Athletics Carnival season has officially begun, with Year 5 students already taking part in their 800m races. It has been wonderful seeing students encouraging one another and giving their best effort. The main Athletics Carnival event for Years 3 to 6 will be held next Friday at the Long Road Sporting Complex. We are looking forward to a fantastic day filled with participation, teamwork, and school spirit.

HIA Soccer Competition

Following the athletics block, the college will host the HIA Soccer Competition on Wednesday, 10 June at the Long Road Sporting Complex. We are excited to see students representing the college, showing sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination throughout the day.

Parent Photo Folder

Please continue checking the parent photo folder regularly for new photos and classroom updates. We will continue uploading photos throughout the term, but we will not always send out reminders when new images have been added, so it is worth keeping an eye on the folder.

Powerful Science in Schools

Our Audiomoths are still busy recording and collecting valuable data about the presence of Powerful Owls in our local area. Students are continuing to take devices home and activate them overnight. Thank you to all families who have assisted with hanging up and activating the Audiomoths at home. Once all recordings have been collected, we will send the data to BirdLife Australia for further sound analysis as part of this exciting citizen science project.

Traffic Safety at School

Thank you to all families for helping keep our students and staff safe by following the 10 km/h speed limit in the school car park. Your patience and care during drop off and pick up times make a big difference to the safety of our school community.

Assessments and End of Term Projects

We have reached the busy point of the term where students are beginning to apply and showcase the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the semester. From writing persuasive emails to local council members, to performing as historical figures in the Living Wax Museum, and designing Scratch games based on states of matter, students have been working hard across a wide range of projects and assessments. It is always rewarding to see students demonstrate their creativity, confidence, and growing understanding through these final tasks.

Year 5 Newsletter Page

A reminder to please bookmark or create a shortcut to our Year 5 Newsletter page, as this is the main point of information for our families throughout the year.

The page includes important updates, instructions for students logging into their school accounts from home, upcoming dates, and information about Year 5 Camp, which will take place at the beginning of Term 3. We recommend checking the page regularly so you do not miss any important information or updates.

From the Year 5 Team

Thank you for your continued support throughout another busy and exciting part of the term. We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm, and perseverance the Year 5 students continue to show each day. We look forward to finishing the term strongly together and celebrating the many achievements and experiences still to come over the next few weeks.

Warm regards,
Mrs Newman, Mrs Starr, Mrs Hall, and Mr. Schönherr
