On Saturday 24 October, Tamborine Mountain College celebrated the creativity, imagination and artistic talents of our students at ArtsFest 2026, Wings of Wonder.

ArtsFest brought our College community together to celebrate the many ways students express themselves through art, music, drama and performance.

Throughout the day, student artwork and creative displays showcased the imagination, skill and dedication of our young artists. Live painting, roaming artists, musical performances and interactive activities added to the festival atmosphere.

A particular highlight was our Primary School production of Madagascar – A Musical Adventure KIDS. Our young performers worked incredibly hard in preparation, demonstrating their confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm for the performing arts. 

Our Secondary Drama Excellence students also performed a thought-provoking adpatation of Ulysses. What made this production even more special was that it was largely adapted and directed by the students themselves.

The entertainment also featured performances from our talented student rock bands, vocalists, instrumental musicians and drama students. Drumming workshops provided another opportunity for students and families to enjoy making music together.

Our Year 5 students created an incredible display between their two classrooms, making their STEM investigation into Power Owls interactive and engaging.

The theme Wings of Wonder reminded us that creativity is about more than the finished artwork or performance. It is about having the confidence to try something new, the courage to share ideas and the opportunity to discover talents that may develop for years to come.

Events of this scale require considerable planning and preparation. A sincere thank you to our Arts staff, teachers, support staff, volunteers and everyone who contributed to making ArtsFest possible.

Congratulations to every student who contributed to ArtsFest 2026, whether through artwork, music, drama, performance or behind-the-scenes involvement.

This week has seen the completion of the Years 7-9 section of the AB Paterson Public speaking Competition. TMC had 6 students represent the College:

Public speaking is a formidable challenge, and our students deserve immense praise for putting themselves in front of an audience and giving it their all. Our six students took to the stage, crafting excellent individual speeches and performing them amazingly well. The standard of public speaking among TMC students is always high, and this remarkable group was no exception.

A special highlight of the event was Year 7 student Anya P., who advanced to the Semi-Finals. Her thought-provoking speech, titled 'What we don't learn in schools,' examined the critical need for greater development and focus on emotional intelligence, empathy, and compassion in education.

All six students have done themselves and the entire TMC community proud. We wholeheartedly congratulate them on their dedication, their hard work, and, most importantly, their courage in embracing vulnerability on stage.

Our Wattle and Lilly Pilly children have been busy putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to work during a fantastic woodworking incursion with Andy from the Little Green Thumbs program!

Before getting started, our budding builders explored the importance of safety, including wearing protective goggles and appropriate footwear. We also investigated different shapes and how they could be combined to create something new. Andy sparked our imaginations by sharing his own wooden creations, including a dinosaur and a car.

The children then became little designers and engineers, creating everything from butterflies and trees to magical fairy gardens! Throughout this hands-on STEM experience, they explored balance, construction and design, experimenting with different pieces, testing ideas and finding creative solutions to make their structures stand.

It was wonderful to see so much critical thinking, persistence, collaboration and creativity in action, all while having fun!

A fantastic reminder that big learning can come from little builders with big imaginations!

On Wednesday, our Year 10 and 11 Visual Art students had the fantastic opportunity to participate in an oil painting workshop led by talented artist Stuart Mattress.

Throughout the day, students explored the art of monochromatic portraiture, developing their skills in tonal variation, blending, brushwork and capturing emotion through painting. Beginning with detailed studies of the human eye, students gradually progressed to creating larger, more expressive portraits, learning how to use light, shadow and mark-making to bring their artworks to life.

It was wonderful to see students challenge themselves, experiment with new techniques and grow in confidence throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of the skills they developed and the impressive artworks they produced in such a short time!
