The Lions' Roar 25/01/2024

Welcome back to another exciting year at TMC. It is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to both returning families and those who are new to our school community. It was an absolute joy to see so many smiling faces on Monday and Tuesday when students experienced their first days back.

The start of a new school year is a time for fresh beginnings, renewed energy, and the chance to build on the successes of the past. 

Here at TMC, we believe a supportive school environment is crucial for the holistic development of our students. To this end, we will be organising various events and activities throughout the year to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among students, parents, and staff.

Parental involvement is a key factor in the success of our school community, and I encourage each family to actively participate in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and other activities. Your engagement and support play a vital role in creating a positive and thriving learning environment for our students.

As we navigate through the bustling afternoons of school pick-up, the safety of our students is of paramount importance. Our car park is at its busiest between 2:45 pm and 3:05pm. If you are able to pick up your student/s after 3:05 pm, please do so. 

When doing the morning or afternoon pick up or drop off, please ensure you are adhering to the following so we can keep our children and staff safe:

1. Use the Crossing: It is crucial for new families to familiarise themselves with designated crossings and always use these. This ensures a smooth flow of traffic and, most importantly, the safety of all pedestrians.
2. Proximity to Moving Vehicles: Children running alongside cars poses a significant risk. It is essential for both drivers and students to be vigilant and mindful of each other's presence. Parents, we request that as you move your children through the car park you ensure your child/ren are moving safely.
3. Waiting in Designated Zones: Primary students are to wait for pick up only in the designated pick-up zones. This helps streamline the pick-up process and reduces the likelihood of accidents.
4. Pick-Up Zone: In the afternoon, these spaces are only to be used by those picking up a child who is waiting in the pick up area. Do not park here if your child/ren are not already waiting. 
5. Boarding Vehicles in Designated Car Parks: Parents, we urge you to only pick up your children in the designated zones to maintain order and safety. Children must not hop into cars outside of the assigned pick-up area.
6. Climbing into Moving Cars: Students climbing into cars that have not come to a complete stop is a significant concern. It is crucial to emphasise the importance of waiting until the vehicle is stationary.
7. Morning Traffic Speed: In the mornings, we have observed some parents driving at speeds higher than recommended. Please be mindful of the speed limit within the school premises to ensure the safety of everyone.
8. Parking Along Beacon Road: Where possible, please use the College car park instead of parking on Beacon Road. Our neighbours have expressed concern about their driveways being blocked and litter being left behind.

We appreciate your cooperation in fostering a safe and secure environment for our students. Together we can maintain a school car park that prioritises the well-being of our children. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community.

On January 18th, Tamborine Mountain staff engaged in a CPR training session found an unexpected participant – CC, the college cat. Amidst chest compressions and rescue breaths, CC brought a touch of humour and camaraderie to the exercise. This heartwarming incident showcases the team's adaptability and resilience, emphasising the importance of staying composed during emergencies. Well done to the staff for their dedication to safety and to CC for her purr-fectly timed encouragement.

The Year 7s were officially welcomed to the Secondary Campus this week! Staff were so excited to see them and planned lots of exciting lessons; including obtaining their Bunsen Burner Licences in Science and learning their times tables through the music of Taylor Swift. It has been a brilliant week and we look forward to seeing Year 7s return with happy smiling faces on Monday!

Beginning this year, the TMC ARC program (Academics, Resilience, and Careers) has been updated to the Roar program. 

Roar fosters the development of essential life skills for our students, shaping them into adept learners and globally conscious citizens. The program reinforces moral and social expectations within our College community, with teachers actively engaging students in areas such as well-being, life skills, global citizenship, pathways planning, careers and study skills.

To help our families settle in for the year ahead, the Primary teachers are hosting a Meet the Teacher Afternoon for parents and guardians next Tuesday from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. We will divide the hour into two twenty-five minute presentations (4:30-4:55 & 5:00-5:25). If you are attending the first session please arrive at least five minutes early. There is a five minute window between sessions so you can move between classrooms to see multiple teachers if needed.

The Meet the Teacher Afternoon is a general information session - if you would like a parent-teacher meeting specific to your child's needs, please make a separate time to meet in the first few weeks with your child's teacher.

*While children are welcome to attend if needed, the information session is for adults, so we ask children to sit quietly with their parents and not run around or play during the presentation.

A reminder to all Primary parents that students are not allowed on campus before 8:15am each day. If families require supervision of children before 8:15am, they may be booked into Before School Care, located at the Early Learning Centre.

At 8:15am a staff member will be on duty at the playground/basketball court area to supervise students after they drop their bags off at the classroom. Students in Year 1-6 must go straight to this area for supervision. Children in Prep may remain in the Prep area with their parents until the staff open their classroom doors.

The first bell goes at 8:35am for children to make their way to their classrooms. Learning begins after the second bell at 8:40am. The College requests that all students arrive before 8:40am, so they do not miss important learning during Period 1. Most classes start each day with valuable literacy lessons.

Tamborine Mountain Show is being held on 16th March 2024, 10am until late.

We will have a fun filled day with the Carnival - Circus Theme

There will be a junior pet show, costume competition, The Tamborine's Got Talen Quest, Costume competition, and lots of stage entertainment till late and the Fabulous Fireworks.  Fun show rides and side show alley.  We will have a spectacular display of "Show and shine Cars" and the Car competitions.  We will also have lots of arena enternainment and displays, including free activities for the kids and all the wonderful pavilion and Green shen competitions.  The opening ceremony will be at approximately 1.00pm at this stage with lots of prixe give-a-ways on the day.  Entries will be at 2.00pm to 6.00pm Friday 15th March 2024
