World Teachers' Day October 31st
As we prepare to celebrate World Teachers’ Day on Friday 31 October, I have been reflecting on the evolving role of teachers and the extraordinary contribution they make, not only within classrooms but across every part of school life.
This year has reminded us that teaching is not just a profession; it’s an act of service and purpose. Teachers have continued to adapt with grace and creativity amidst curriculum reform, new technologies, and growing wellbeing needs for both students and staff. At TMC, our teachers embody what it means to educate the whole child - balancing academic excellence with compassion, guidance, and genuine care.
Every day at TMC, I see teachers igniting curiosity, encouraging courage, and nurturing a sense of belonging. Whether it’s through the calm patience shown in early literacy groups, the excitement of hands-on science lessons, or the thoughtful feedback offered to a senior student preparing for exams, our teachers are shaping young minds with both skill and heart.
We also recognise that the pressures on teachers have never been higher. Increasing complexity in classrooms, administrative demands, and changing societal expectations continue to challenge educators across Australia. That’s why it’s never been more important to value and protect our teachers’ wellbeing, ensuring they feel supported, respected, and trusted to do what they do best: teach.
To our teachers, thank you for your unwavering dedication and for upholding the values that define our College: Kindness, Integrity, Equity, and Success. You are the heart of TMC, and your influence extends far beyond the school gates.
As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day this year, I invite our community to join me in acknowledging and thanking the teachers who inspire our students every day. A simple gesture of appreciation can mean so much. It reminds them that their work truly matters.

Preparing our TMC Students for the Real World
At Tamborine Mountain College, we are passionate about equipping our students with the skills and confidence they need beyond the classroom.

When: Wednesday 12 November
Time: 9:00am – 11:00am
We’re inviting members of our wonderful community to be part of this valuable experience. If you’re able to assist by volunteering as an interviewer, we’d love to hear from you!

At TMC we help prepare the next generation of professionals for success.
TMC Stationery Drive: Helping Local Families Start the School Year Strong
As we approach the end of the year, Tamborine Mountain College is proud to support a meaningful community initiative to ensure every child starts the new school year ready to learn.
We have partnered with Beaucare, a local community organisation supporting families in need across the Scenic Rim. Each January, Beaucare provides book packs and essential school supplies to families who may not have the means to purchase them.
This is where our TMC community can make a difference. We are holding a Stationery Drive this Term to collect new school items, including:
- Exercise books (all year levels)
- Grid books
- Pencils, pens and erasers
- Rulers
- Calculators
- Glue Sticks
- Coloured pencils and pens
- And any other essential stationery families might need
All items must be new, so students receiving them can begin their school year with dignity and confidence.
Donations can be delivered to the students' classrooms/form rooms. Each room will have a box for collections during school hours. Every contribution, big or small, will help support a local student in their learning journey.
Let's show the strength of our TMC community and help set more children up for success.

Tamborine Mountain College - Teacher Feature
Secondary Senior Mathematics Teacher
What inspired you to become a teacher?
My own teachers in high school were my inspiration. They inspired a love of learning, particularly in the area of mathematics, science and technology.
If you weren’t a teacher, what career would you have pursued?
I was always driven since high school to be a teacher, but if I hadn't done that I think I would have loved a job developing educational technologies and learning platforms to support education in another way.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
The "aha" moment when a student solves a problem.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I've lived in five different countries for 4 years or more. I have also explored 32 countries, mostly throughout Asia, Pacific and Europe, but want to visit many more!
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Such a tough question! I would probably like to have dinner with someone who didn't really become a well-known historical figure, but lived a life in service of others in relative obscurity in a far off-place. One of the most fascinating people I've ever met was a local taxi driver in Bethlehem, and whilst not historical in the sense that he existed for me to meet, the history and culture of his town of birth was so woven into his every experience.
What’s your favourite book or movie, and why do you love it?
Star Wars Episodes IV to VI - it's iconic, what can I say?
What’s a memorable moment from your time at Tamborine Mountain College?
I've had the opportunity to go on Year 7 and 9 camps and absolutely loved seeing kids navigating fun team challenges out of the classroom.
Share with us some of your greatest achievements in life?
My family is my greatest achievement.
What’s a piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self?
Embrace the mistakes, every mistake is a learning opportunity.
What are your hobbies outside of school?
Gym, Reading, Netflix.
If you could learn a new skill instantly, what would it be?
A new language.
What’s one thing your students have taught you?
That "sigma" is not just a greek letter used as the sum of a series in mathematics.
If you had to describe your teaching style in three words, what would they be?
Resourceful, Structured, Differentiated.
What’s your favourite thing about the Tamborine Mountain College community?
The caring nature of the community.
What’s one song that always puts you in a good mood and why?
Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows - it's a song my kids request at bedtime.

Day for Daniel, Friday Oct 31
On Friday October 31, Tamborine Mountain College will participate in Day for Daniel, Australia’s largest day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection, and harm prevention. This important national event, organised by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, encourages schools and families to have age-appropriate conversations with children about how to stay safe – in person and online.
Students are encouraged to wear red on the day to honour Daniel’s memory and to show their support for child safety education. We ask that students bring a gold coin donation, which will go directly to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to continue their valuable work supporting children and families across Australia.
Throughout the day, classes will take part in activities that promote the key safety messages of Recognise, React, and Report – helping children build confidence and awareness about personal safety and trusted adults they can turn to for help.
Information on student safety at TMC is always accessible via the Student Start Page, Parent Lounge, and Student Cafe.
By participating in Day for Daniel, we’re reinforcing one of our core TMC values – Integrity – encouraging our students to make safe choices and to speak up for themselves and others.
Mark your calendars, our Mountain’s most creative celebration is back!
The Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival is returning from 23–26 October 2025 and everyone’s invited to join the fun!
This much loved annual festival is all about celebrating our incredible mountain lifestyle with visitors near and far. Imagine hundreds of unique, quirky, and cleverly crafted scarecrows lining the Scarecrow Discovery Trail… it’s like a giant outdoor sculpture show with a scarecrow twist!
Whether you’re young or young at heart, artistic or just up for a laugh, you can be part of it:
Build a scarecrow and display it in front of your home or business.
Enter the competition and see how your creation stacks up against others.
Wander the trail and soak up the community spirit.
Don’t miss the mountain magic, celebrate the Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival!

Year 11 Visual Art Experience
Last week, our Year 11 Visual Art class participated in a two-day immersive art experience that served as the stimulus for their Year 12 assessments.
On the first day, the Year 10 Art class joined us for an excursion to HOTA, where students explored current exhibitions and took part in a hands-on printmaking workshop led by practicing artists.
The second day focused on experimental approaches to still life and portrait photography. Students worked with projection, props, and conceptual prompts to explore ideas of identity, symbolism, and creative expression through lens-based media.
