This year’s highly anticipated Interschool STEM Competition saw a wave of excitement and creativity as students from across the Gold Coast gathered to showcase their engineering prowess in a thrilling challenge: designing and building remote-controlled boats. The event, held on 21st August, was a resounding success, with students demonstrating remarkable ingenuity and teamwork.
The competition tasked participants with designing and constructing remote-controlled boats that were lightweight, waterproof and fast. Students were given a set of materials and constraints, pushing them to apply their knowledge of physics, engineering, and technology to create functional and competitive vessels.
There were two categories that TMC entered, Main Entry and the Wild Card category. Our Main Entry Boat (designed and built by Kaiden B, Josh F-B, Archie F and Ewen T) floated beautifully, but it just could not compete with the speed boats from other schools. Our students should be commended for their teamwork and positive attitudes.
TMC entered four boats into the Wild Card category. Unfortunately due to electrical and 3D printing issues, Chloe C and Hayden L had to forfeit at the last minute. They maintained high spirits as they cheered on the other teams and were ready to jump in and lend a hand where needed.
It was then onto the other three TMC boats to compete. Whilst Archie A's boat showed excellent creativity with its design, it was not powerful enough to come out in front. Felix H and Nate M's paddle style boat looked like it was going to win the gold, however Cooper M's batman/fish inspired boat took over the lead and won. Well done Cooper!
The day ended with a sing-a-long in the bus ride back to school, showing that the students had a wonderful day out.
Congratulations to all participants for making this year’s Interschool STEM Competition a success!
