Epilepsy Awareness Day - Tuesday, March 24. Slime the Heads of School!!
We are proud to share a wonderful student-led initiative driven by TMC Year 7 student, Millie.
On Tuesday, 24 March, our College community is invited to come together for a meaningful cause by wearing purple and making a donation in support of Epilepsy Queensland.
This special day is all about raising awareness and funds for those living with epilepsy, and showing the strength of our TMC community when we rally behind a cause that matters. To add a little fun to the day, we may even see a few familiar faces, Mrs Stevens, Mr Stevens, and Mr O'Neill, get slimed if we reach our fundraising goal!
What you need to know:
- Date: Tuesday, 24 March
- Wear: Dress in purple! Wear your favorite purple shirt, dress, or even just some purple socks. The more purple, the better! Rock the purple accessories! Show your support with a purple headband, bracelet, zinc etc.
- Donation: Gold coin given at school or more, if you wish, directly through this link: Epilepsy Queensland - Tamborine Mountain College
Here's the slimy challenge:
- If the TMC community raises $300, get ready to see Mr. O'Neill, Student Welfare Coordinator, get covered in purple slime!
- If we reach $500, both Mr. O'Neill and Mr. Stevens, Head of Primary, will get slimed!
- But wait, there's even more slime to come! If TMC surpasses an incredible $600, College Principal Mrs. Stevens will be slimed as well!!
We encourage all students to get involved, show their support, and help make a real difference. Thank you for backing Millie’s initiative and for continuing to demonstrate the generosity and spirit that defines our College community.

The students have planted more tomato seeds and fertilised the plants. Our pumpkins are getting bigger. Even some of the senior students enjoyed helping out.

Mr Trevor Jamieson
Year 5 Science

In our recent Science classes, students have embarked on an awe-inspiring journey through our solar system. Delving into the intricacies of planetary sizes and distances, they've gained a deep understanding of our cosmic neighborhood. In a particularly hands-on lesson, students meticulously crafted scale models of the sun and planets, with the sun spanning just over 70 cms. Taking their learning beyond the classroom, they ventured outdoors to the playground, where they carefully spaced out the planets according to scale. Witnessing Neptune's placement over 150 meters away truly brought the vastness of space into perspective. Through this immersive activity, students not only grasped the sheer enormity of our solar system but also gained a profound appreciation for the wonders of the cosmos.

Melting Moments - Year 3
The Year 3 students have been having a wonderful time learning about States of Matter. We've talked about solids, liquids and gases, as well as how they change states. We've even been using amazing scientific words like fusion, condensation, solidification and vapourisation. On Wednesday, we took advantage of the warm sun (our heat source) and did an experiment to answer the question "Does ice or chocolate melt faster?".

Grandparents & Special Friend's Day

All TMC grandparents are invited to our Grandparents and Special Friend's Day on Thursday, March 28. Your child may invite a 'special friend' if their grandparent is unable to attend (e.g. aunty, uncle, family friend or parent). As space will be limited in classrooms, we ask only the invited grandparent/s or special friend attends this event, rather than everyone in the family. If no one is able to attend, your child will be 'buddied up' with another student.
Please share the timetable of events below with the guests attending:
- 9:30 am - Our visitors arrive and are directed to the school hall
- 9:40 am - Easter bonnet parade by our Prep - Year 3 students. The Easter Bonnet Parade is for grandparents/special friends only.
- 10 am - Classroom activities for Prep - Year 6
- 10:45 am - shared morning tea
- 11 - 11:15 am - end
Your child is to bring in a plate of food to share with their grandparent so they can host a morning tea with them. Children can also bring a picnic blanket to sit on if they wish. Families with multiple children can all meet at the youngest child's classroom for morning tea so they may sit together. Please remember to tell your guests that TMC is a nut free zone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question - Can my child bring more than one grandparent?
Yes. Your child can invite all their grandparents, whether that is one or four.
Question - We only have one grandparent. Can a 'special friend' come as well?
No. Your child may invite a 'special friend' (i.e. aunty, uncle or family friend) ONLY if their grandparent is unable to attend. As space will be limited, we ask only the invited grandparent OR a special friend attends this event, rather than everyone in the family.
Question - How can parents see the bonnet parade?
The teachers will take photos of the children in their bonnets and share them with their parents. Due to limited space, parents are not able to attend with their grandparent/s.
Question - What happens during the activities if there is one grandparent and two children?
The grandparent will spend half the activity time in each of the two classrooms.

Harmony week recognises diversity bringing together Australians from all different backgrounds. Pre Prep has had various families share aspects from their own family cultures with us through food, activities and music. Thank you to Summers Mum for sharing how to make Italian Gnocchi, Sebastian' s Mum contributed some tasty Polish caramel wafer biscuits while Sebastian wore his culture dress and Lena's Mum supported the children to make some fresh and healthy Sushi Rolls. Our program is enriched when we have these wonderful contributions from our TMC community developing children's sense of belonging.
Next week we are looking forward to including some other family members when we host 'Grandparents Day' next Thursday. Be sure to pick up an invitation with all the details.

Band Program Highlights
It’s been a busy term for our band program! I’d love to share some of our Term 1 highlights:
- Our band program has grown in 2024! We have our largest Junior Band ever (approx. 30 students) and our largest Yr 4 Band ever (approx. 40 students)
- To celebrate the Paris Olympics 2024, our Junior Band and Senior Band are learning different Olympic theme songs, which we look forward to sharing during the year
- To celebrate the Year of the Dragon in 2024 (Chinese zodiac), our Junior Band are learning Dragon Dance
- In recognition of our talented bass players (and for a bit of fun) Senior Band is learning Enter Sandman by Metallica
- Best Yr 4 Band moments: 1) how excited they were when they got their instruments for the first time; 2) when all 40 of us assembled as a concert band for the first time, and played some simple notes and exercises together on the stage; 3) seeing our more advanced students progress, and help others in their lesson groups.
- Best Junior Band moments: 1) acing Bugler’s Dream in rehearsal (Olympic theme music from the 1964); 2) beginning to assemble the many layers of our hardest piece, Red Comet; 3) playing the gong!
- Best Senior Band moments: 1) playing the bass line and glissandi in Enter Sandman; 2) seeing the difficult parts of Olympic Fanfare and Theme begin to come together; 3) seeing our new secondary students and advanced primary students settle in so well.
Looking forward to more musical highlights through the year: our hearts will go on, we will be going to the tree, and the force will be with us!
