This week's featured image is three remarkable students: Mackenzie, Harvey, and Jake.
Each of these children has been personally affected by brain cancer within their families and friends.
Mackenzie, a member of our Primary Student Representative Council (SRC), was the first to share her family’s experience. Her story inspired her fellow SRC members to take action by choosing to support the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, raising both awareness and vital funds.
Harvey and Jake, whose families have also been impacted, helped to show our community just how far empathy and compassion can go.
Through the efforts of our SRC and the whole Primary school, we raised $1,582.05 – smashing our $1,200 goal!
We are incredibly proud of these students and grateful for the awareness they’ve brought to such an important cause.

TMC - Teacher Feature
Sommer Bond, Prep Teacher
What inspired you to become a teacher? Seeing a family member struggle through school and wanting to be able to help others like them so they didn't struggle.
If you weren’t a teacher, what career would you have pursued? One of the Wiggles or a Playschool presenter!
What’s the most rewarding part of your job? The lightbulb moments! When a child 'gets' that thing they have been working on and they realise they can do it!
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know? I used to sing in an acoustic duo.
What’s your favourite book or movie, and why do you love it? Harry Potter - books more than movies. I love losing myself in that world.
What’s a memorable moment from your time at Tamborine Mountain College? When CC decided to come into my room and curl up under my table on a cushion while I was doing parent teacher interviews and wasn't the least bit interested in leaving!
Share with us some of your greatest achievements in life? My 3 children, keeping 50+ houseplants alive and thriving, sharing my passion for education and inclusivity with other teachers from all around the world.
What are your hobbies outside of school? Swimming, plant rearing, online shopping and reading.
If you could learn a new skill instantly, what would it be? To play guitar.
What’s one thing your students have taught you? A really good sticker can make your day so much better!
If you had to describe your teaching style in three words, what would they be? Playful, Engaging, Inclusive.
What’s your favourite thing about the Tamborine Mountain College community? The caring and friendly people. Knowing that if I wasn't there, my child would be cheered for by so many at an event and they would genuinely be happy for her success.

Gold Coast Health Opportunities!
This Wednesday, I had the opportunity to attend the Gold Coast Health Open Day. This experience was full of eye-opening insights and opportunities. As part of the day, I went on a guided tour through the hospital, even getting to explore areas behind the scenes, such as the back tunnels and logistics departments. It really made me realise that there is so much more to a hospital than just nurses and doctors; there are teams of people working behind the scenes managing deliveries, transporting supplies, maintaining equipment, and ensuring that the hospital runs smoothly every single day.
Gold Coast Health also provides a range of school-based traineeships available for Year 11 students. These include opportunities in areas such as administration, medical imaging, nursing, allied health, and more. It’s a fantastic way for students who are interested in a career in health to gain real world experience while still completing their studies.
Applications are now open. If your student is interested, please contact Mrs Parker-Browne for further information.

Year 12s Drop the Beat for Allied Staff Appreciation Day
At Tamborine Mountain College, we know it takes a village, and at the heart of ours are our incredible Allied Staff. From administration and IT to our College nurse, learning support, maintenance, and everything in between, this dedicated team keeps our College running smoothly every single day.
To recognise their efforts, we celebrated Allied Staff Appreciation Day with heartfelt thanks, warm smiles… and a surprise performance that stole the show!
In true TMC style, our Year 12 students went above and beyond, writing and performing an original rap to honour the Allied team. With clever lyrics, catchy rhythms, and a whole lot of heart, the seniors had the crowd laughing, cheering, and even dancing along. Delivered with humour and gratitude.
It was a brilliant moment that captured the spirit of appreciation and camaraderie we cherish here at TMC.
To all our Allied Staff, thank you for your behind the scenes brilliance, your tireless support, and the countless ways you contribute to our community. You may not wear capes, but you are our everyday heroes.
To join in olur appreciation please see below our Year 12s lyrics to their home grown rap!
"TMC Heroes (Rap Tribute)" By the grateful voices of the students
Yeah, we reppin’ TMC with pride, Shoutin’ out the legends who stand by our side. They hold it down, every single day, Helping us grow in every way—HEY!
Verse 1: The College Nurse - Mrs Schonfisch White coat, kind heart, cool like a breeze, It’s Mrs Schonfisch, puttin' students at ease. From headaches to cuts, yeah, she knows what to do, Bandages, care, and a kind word too. You feelin’ sick? She’s got your back, With love and skill—she’s never slack! Nurse of the year, no doubt about it, At TMC, we just gotta shout it!
Chorus: Mrs Schonfisch, Vella, Davies and Cambell, Holdin’ us down, strong like an anvil. From buses to band-aids, notes to the hall, TMC’s stars – yeah, they do it all!
Verse 2: The Bus Queen – Mrs Vella She’s the queen of the road, the boss of the route, When you see her roll up, students they shout! Mrs Vella at the wheel, keepin’ things tight, Safe and steady in the morning light. No student left behind, she knows each name, From the valley to the peak, it’s more than a game. With a wave and a smile, she starts your day, She’s the bus queen, paving the way.
Chorus: Mrs Schonfisch, Vella, Davies and Cambell, Holdin’ us down, strong like an anvil. From buses to band-aids, notes to the hall, TMC’s stars – yeah, they do it all!
Verse 3: The Admin Empresses – Mrs Davies & Mrs Campbell They run the show, queens of the desk, Making order from chaos—yeah, they’re the best. Mrs Davies got the calm, Mrs Campbell brings the fire, Together they inspire, lift us all higher. They juggle the calls, the papers, the plans, Solvin’ all problems with magical hands. Need a form? Need a smile? Maybe some cheer? Step in the office, they got it right here!
Bridge: From the clinic to the office, the front gate to the ride, These ladies are legends, we say it with pride. Tamborine’s finest, hearts full of gold, Their stories of kindness forever retold.
Final Chorus (Big Finish):
Mrs Schonfisch, Vella, Davies and Cambell,
Heroes of TMC, y’all are essential!
We see you, we thank you, we’re better 'cause of you,
In the heart of this College, you're the truest crew!

A special thank you goes to our teachers, support staff and maintenance team whose tireless efforts and encouragement helped the day run smoothly.
Well done to our Sports Captains Anna, Emily and Alex, who led by example and inspired house spirit throughout the day. Their leadership helped create a vibrant and supportive atmosphere.

TMC Preps on the Move with Words!
This Term, our wonderful Prep students have been getting their bodies moving and their brains thinking! Each morning, after a healthy and fuelling Munch & Crunch, the prep students leap into learning with an exciting daily obstacle course.
From crawling, climbing to hopping and balancing, students are not only building strong bodies but also practising their reading skills along the way - sounding out, blending, and reading the words we have been learning in class from the Soundwaves program. It's the perfect mix of movement and literacy, and they are loving every minute of it!
TAKING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST We are now taking expressions of interest in the 2025 Tournament of Minds problem-solving challenge. Tournament of Minds presents an opportunity for students to connect with peers and teachers, working collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment. This year, we will be having teams of students from Years 5-10.
ABOUT TOURNAMENT OF MINDS
Tournament of Minds is a problem solving program for teams of students from both primary and secondary years. Tournament's aim is to enhance the potential of our youth by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment. Tournament of Minds is an opportunity for students with a passion for learning and problem solving to demonstrate their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way. Students are required to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following disciplines: The Arts, STEM, Language Literature or Social Sciences.
IMPORTANT DATES / COMMITMENT Once the challenges are released (Week 1, Term 3), students will need to attend weekly meetings which will be determined by team facilitators. The students have six weeks to respond to the challenge scenario.
The Gold Coast Regional presentation will take place on Sunday 24th August (every student involved will need to be available on this date). If your child’s team successfully qualifies for the state final, this will be held in Brisbane on Saturday 13th September. Please keep this date in mind, as most of our teams made it through to state finals last year.
If you would like to register your child’s interest in the competition, please email Mrs Sands (jsands@tmc.qld.edu.au) ASAP.

Thank You for Supporting Our Cure Brain Cancer Fundraiser!
Our Primary SRC’s fundraiser on Wednesday was a huge success – and a real celebration of our students' spirit. The students had a fantastic time navigating the obstacle course, while raising funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, inspired by one of our SRC families whohas been affected by this awful disease.
Through their efforts, we raised $1,582.05 – smashing our $1,200 goal! It’s an incredible result, and I couldn’t be prouder of the students and the care they showed for this cause. Thank you to everyone who donated and got behind the event. It made a real difference.

Spotlight on Bands
It's been a big term for our three band programs! In May, our Junior and Senior Bands performed wonderfully at TMC's 30th Anniversary Community Celebration. This month, our Year 4 Band performed for the very first time at our Beginners Music Concert! Afterwards they were treated to performances from our Junior Band and Senior Band members to help inspire them. With about two thirds of Year 4 electing to continue learning an instrument next semester, I think it worked!
Thank you for a great term, looking forward to next semester!
