At Tamborine Mountain College, student safety and wellbeing are at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring that all students feel safe, respected and confident to speak up if something does not feel right.
An important part of this commitment is helping students understand their right to feel safe, to be listened to, and to know who they can talk to if they are worried or feel unsafe - at school or at home.
Across the College, students are provided with age-appropriate information about child safety and help-seeking through classroom discussions, wellbeing programs, pastoral care activities and assemblies. These conversations focus on recognising safe and unsafe situations, understanding personal boundaries, and knowing that it is always okay to ask for help.
Students are regularly reminded that they can speak with a trusted adult at the College, including the Principal, Heads of School, Welfare staff or any member of staff they feel comfortable with. We also make it clear that if a concern relates to safety, staff are required by law to take action to help keep students safe.
To support this, child safety information is displayed and reinforced through visible materials around the College, including student-friendly posters that explain who students can talk to and what happens when they do. This helps ensure that help-seeking pathways are clear, consistent and accessible.
We also encourage students to have a voice in matters that affect them, and to participate in conversations about wellbeing, safety and respectful relationships in ways that are appropriate to their age and stage of development.
Families play a vital role in supporting child safety. We encourage parents and carers to talk with their children about feeling safe, to reassure them that they will be supported if they raise concerns, and to contact the College if they have any questions about our child protection processes.
Our Child Protection Policy, reporting processes and contact details are available on the College website and from the school office at any time. Working together, we can ensure that every student at Tamborine Mountain College feels safe, supported and empowered to speak up.
