COVID-19 Advice
With a number of COVID-19 cases around in our community at the moment, please read and follow the current advice from QLD Health to help protect the vulnerable and limit the spread.
Take precautions whilst infectious
Staying at home is an effective way of reducing the spread of all respiratory viruses, including COVID-19. You should stay at home whilst infectious to help prevent infecting others.
When to take precautions
If you:
- have any symptoms of acute respiratory infection, or
- test positive to COVID-19
Queensland Health strongly recommends that you stay at home until:
- you no longer have acute respiratory symptoms
- you've gone for at least 24 hours without a fever, without using fever-reducing painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, and
- at least 5 days has passed since either the onset of acute respiratory infection symptoms or the positive COVID-19 test (whichever was first).
You should:
- avoid entering hospitals, residential aged care facilities and disability accommodation services
- wear a face mask covering your mouth whenever you are in an indoor setting outside the home
- avoid contact with people who are at higher risk of severe disease
- wash your hands regularly
- practise good respiratory hygiene (such as covering your cough)

Fostering Growth Mindset in Teenagers
A growth mindset, as coined by psychologist Carol Dweck, is the belief that intelligence, abilities, and talents can be developed through dedication, effort, and perseverance. There are a number of strategies that parents of the TMC school community can employ at home to foster a growth mindset.
Embracing Challenges as Opportunities for Growth
Encourage teenagers to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks. Help them understand that mistakes and failures are a natural part of the learning process and provide valuable opportunities for learning and improvement. Emphasise the importance of resilience, perseverance, and grit in overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
Promoting Effort and Persistence
Shift the focus from innate talent or intelligence to the effort and hard work required for success. Praise teenagers for their effort, perseverance, and dedication, rather than solely focusing on outcomes or achievements. Our teachers at TMC make this part of our pedagogy. Encourage them to set goals, create action plans, and break tasks down into manageable steps.
Encouraging a Love of Learning
Instill a love of learning by fostering curiosity, exploration and intellectual growth. Encourage teenagers to explore new interests, pursue their passions, and seek out opportunities for self-improvement. Provide a supportive and nurturing environment where they feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and seeking help when needed.
Cultivating Resilience and Optimism
Help teenagers develop resilience by teaching them how to bounce back from setbacks and adversity. Encourage them to reframe negative thoughts and beliefs into positive affirmations and to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Model resilience and optimism in your own attitudes and behaviours, and demonstrate how to cope effectively with stress, setbacks, and disappointments.
Fostering a growth mindset in teenagers is a journey that empowers them to unlock their full potential and thrive in a rapidly changing world. By embracing this journey we can nurture the next generation of resilient, adaptable, and confident individuals who are prepared to face any challenge that comes their way.

Celebrating Chinese New Year in the Lilly Pilly Class
The Lilly Pilly Pre Prep class has been bustling with activity, especially as we continue with our 'All About Me Topic.' Delving into the vibrant celebrations of Chinese New Year with two of our families having Chinese backgrounds created an opportunity for meaningful experiences centred around captivating music and dance, creating a Dragon to sumptuous array of traditional foods served during this festive time.
Mason's extended family from China visited us at the centre creating excitement with all of the children. In 2024, it's the Year of the Dragon, symbolizing strength, wisdom and good fortune. We are immensely grateful to Mason's family for their generous participation in our celebrations. Visiting the class and treating us to a delicious feast of homemade Chinese cuisine at our very own Chinese Restaurant! The flavours and aromas transported us to the Chinese restaurant that many of the children spoke about visiting with their own families, filling our hearts and bellies with warmth and happiness. The children were very lucky to have been given graciously from Mason's family lucky red envelopes, each one carrying blessings of prosperity and good health for the coming year. Thank you Mason's family for enriching us and empowering the children to learn more about your culture traditions.
(Gong Xi Fa Cai) - Wishing you prosperity)

District Boys Touch Football Trials
On Tuesday afternoon, Abel Erasmus, Riley Vella and Brodie Holmes attend the 10-12 Years Boys Hinterland District Touch Football Trials at Assisi. The boys were put through their paces along with 40 other students, in a series of drills and games. The group was then narrowed down to a Possibles and Probables game, which then saw Brodie Holmes gain selection as one of 12 boys in the Hinterland Team. Brodie will represent Hinterland at the South Coast Regional Trials on March 12 at the Gold Coast Touch Association. We congratulate Abel and Riley on the skills and positive attitude they demonstrated at the trials as well as Brodie on his selection.
