Upcoming Parent Webinar - My Teen & the Boundaries They're Pushing
Respectful Resistance, Discipline Fatigue, and Keeping Boundaries Firm but Fair
Why does every request feel like a negotiation? Why do teens push back more as they grow older, and why does it feel so personal?
This week’s My Teen webinar explores the natural (and often frustrating) process of boundary testing during adolescence. As teens seek independence, parents often face increased resistance, emotional outbursts or shutdowns, and discipline fatigue. But these behaviours are often part of a healthy (though difficult) developmental shift.
Led by Kane O’Neill, Student Welfare Coordinator, My Teen & the Boundaries They're Pushing will help you unpack what’s really going on beneath the surface and how to respond with clarity, calm, and consistency.
In this session, you’ll gain practical strategies to:
- Understand why teens resist rules they once accepted
- Maintain clear and fair expectations without escalating conflict
- Recognise when behaviour is a cry for connection, not just defiance
- Avoid power struggles and reduce burnout at home
- Support your teen in becoming independent, without losing respect
Whether your teen is pushing back, pulling away, or simply questioning every rule, this webinar will help you keep expectations clear and relationships strong.
Join us Wednesday 21 August at 7:30pm via Zoom:

This session will focus on real-world strategies you can use straight away, without adding to the mental load. If you’ve ever felt unsure about when to hold the line or when to step back, this webinar will give you some clarity and reassurance. It’s about setting boundaries that work for your family and help your teen grow into a respectful, responsible young adult.
Science Week 2025 - Decoding the Universe
This year’s Science Week theme, Decoding the Universe, inspired our students to explore science in fun and creative ways. Throughout the week, teams of secondary students put their problem-solving skills to the test in our Escape Room Challenges, racing to decode a series of tricky puzzles to “escape” in time. Our sign up list was at maximum capacity for each challenge, and it was fantastic to see our RN2 lab full of students during lunchtimes, solving puzzles in collaborative teams.
Meanwhile, students of all ages took part in a colouring competition inspired by an exciting real-life space mission. In 2026, Australian company Lunaria One plans to send a “lunarium” – a capsule containing plants and seeds – to the Moon as part of the ALEPH mission. Students from Prep to Year 12 brought out their artistic skills to colour in a scene based on the ALEPH mission. Stay tuned for news about how our colouring competition turned out in next week’s newsletter.
It was a fantastic week of curiosity, creativity, and cosmic thinking!

Book Week is Next Week!
We warmly invite you to join us for two events during our Book Week celebrations next week.
Primary Costume Parade
When: Thursday, August 21
Hall doors open: 8:40am
Parade start: 8:50am
We encourage all children to join in the fun by dressing up as their favourite book character on Thursday. This is always a wonderful celebration of creativity and a chance for students to share their love of reading.
Book Fair – Little Book Room (Administration Building)
Opening times (first opening time is Tuesday afternoon):
- Before School: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 8:15am to 8:45am
- Afternoons: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 2:40pm to 3:15pm
Thank you to our P&F parent volunteers for helping to run our Book Fair! Each purchase at the book fair not only provides an exciting opportunity for your child to engage with reading, but it also earns Scholastic credits for TMC that we can use to purchase literacy resources.
We hope you can visit the Book Fair during the week and look forward to possibly seeing you next Thursday at the Costume Parade.
Afterschool Cricket Coaching at TMC
This term, the children in Primary have enjoyed some cricket coaching from Cricket QLD during classtime PE lessons. They have been building towards a four week after school program, starting this coming Thursday. All students of all abilities in Prep - Year 6 are welcome to attend this fun, introductory program for only $40. Please see the flyer below and sign up as soon as possible because cricket starts Thursday!!
Grade 2 Scientists Explore the Water Cycle!
In Grade 2 Science, we’ve been busy becoming water detectives—learning all about the amazing journey water takes around our planet. This journey is called the water cycle, and it’s made up of four exciting steps: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.
To help us see the water cycle in action, we made our very own mini water worlds… in a zip-lock bag! First, we added some water, sealed the bag, and taped it to a sunny window. Then the magic began:
Evaporation – The warmth from the sun made our water turn into invisible water vapour.
Condensation – The vapour cooled down and turned into tiny water droplets on the inside of the bag (like mini clouds!).
Precipitation – When the droplets grew bigger, they rolled down the sides like raindrops.
Collection – The water ended up back at the bottom, ready to start the cycle again.
We loved checking our zip-lock bags each day to see the changes. Some of us even gave our “cloud bags” names and made predictions about what would happen next!
It’s been so much fun learning that the same water we drink today has been travelling around the Earth for millions of years. We can’t wait to see what other exciting science adventures are ahead!
Science Week Highlights
What a week of discovery it has been! On Thursday, Andrew Dinwoodie and volunteers Dr Nick and Lucy from the Powerful Owl Project of BirdLife Australia returned to guide our students through owl pellet investigations. Comparing samples from two different sites, students uncovered what prey the owls had been eating. It was an exciting (and sometimes smelly) dive into real-life science. Wearing lab coats in the high school lab, they became true citizen scientists.
On Friday, we were treated to a visit from Craig Ferguson, proud dad of one of our Year 5 students, who shared fossils from his private collection. His fascinating talk explained how fossils help us understand evolution and adaptation, giving students another hands-on opportunity to explore the wonders of science.

Music Incursion
On Thursday, August 14 we were delighted to host professional flautist Tim Munro for a series of music incursions. Years 1 to 4 participated in improvisation activities using their voices and classroom instruments, culminating in soundscape performances with Tim. The Junior and Senior Bands were led through breathing exercises, followed by more improvisation activities on their band instruments. Well done to students on your excellent participation and thoughtful comments!
As director of the SXS Chamber Music Festival, held at the nearby Shambala Estate from August 22-24, Tim provided these incursions for free, as well as complimentary tickets for the Saturday morning performance for a few lucky students! We are so grateful for the SXS focus on community music, and look forward to collaborating again next year.
