A big thank you to all that contributed towards our Jeans for Genes day Fundraiser.  TMC raised a grand total of $907.50 for research into genetic diseases.  And because it was Double Dontation Day this turned into a staggering $1,827.00.  Well done TMC!

Our Intermediate A debating team competed in the Gold Coast Debating Association Round of 16 on Wednesday night, facing Somerset in what proved to be a very close debate. While the win didn’t go our way, I’m impressed with how the team performed.

Arguing the negative side of the topic, “We should spend more time experiencing life than documenting it”, our team took on the more challenging stance and delivered well-reasoned arguments with confidence. Their performance showed just how far they have progressed this year, both in skill and self-assurance.

Congratulations to Ruby, Archie, Skye, and James. I am incredibly proud of your efforts and growth as debaters.

On Wednesday, our TMC Chess Club competed in the Term 3 Secondary Inter-school Chess Competition at TSS, where our students rose to the challenge and displayed outstanding skill, tactics, and sportsmanship throughout the event. Elijah and I made our A Grade debut, holding our ground to give the high-rated players a challenge. TMC’s second team (Isaac, Jack, Ethan, and Kai) were unexpectedly bumped up to B Grade from C but rose to the occasion, with Isaac and Kai earning merit ribbons. Our ROOKies in the D Division demonstrated exceptional perseverance and proudly showcased their newly acquired skills—congratulations to Keenan, Deaken, Savannah, Amelia, Nate, James, Jacob, and Alex. A special mention goes to Alex, who achieved an impressive 3rd place out of 60 competitors in his very first tournament. Mrs Haskins and I would like to give a huge well done to all our members representing the college—despite the many wins and painful blunders! Another big thank you to the great teachers, Mr Cadman and Mrs Haskins, for helping organise our squad!

This week, our Year 11 Chemistry students have been busy in the lab, carrying out experiments for their Student Experiment assessment task. Working in small groups, they chose to focus on either reaction rates or limiting reagents and designed their own investigations to collect and analyse data.

One group explored limiting reagents by reacting steel wool with copper sulfate solution. They prepared and tested their solutions, then used a technique called colorimetry to measure how much copper was left in the solution after the reaction. This helped them figure out which chemical was used up first and how complete the reaction was.

Another group looked at reaction rates by mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. They tested how changing the amount of bicarbonate affected the amount of gas produced. Through careful measuring and fair testing, they were able to explain how different factors can speed up or slow down a reaction.

We’re proud of the students’ scientific thinking, teamwork, and hands-on learning!

At  the end of Term 2 several students entered the LTQ2025 Online (Primary) French speech competition, competing against students from other schools throughout Queensland.

There were a lot of Year 4 and Year 5 students wishing to enter however, with an entry limit of only 3x students  per year group, the selection process was intense. I am so proud of the hard work by all the students, perfecting their pronunciation and speech delivery and am delighted to announce that all six students entered from TMC gained a placing!

TMC is holding the annual Scholastic Book Fair, starting on Tuesday 19th August in our Little Book Room.

Every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our classrooms.

Pre Prep Wattle – Learning in Motion!

From flying catapults to balancing scales,  Pre Prep Wattle  has been on the move exploring push and pull! The children shared everyday examples—from swings and trolleys to light switches—before testing their ideas with levers in real-life experiments.

Stronger pushes, heavier objects, bigger launches—it’s been hands-on, high-energy learning that’s building early science, engineering, and problem-solving skills.

Pre Prep Lilly Pilly  - Kindness is all around!

This week, we witnessed a beautiful example of friendship and inclusion when a couple  of our friends  welcomed a new student on her very first day. With a warm smile and gentle reassurance,  she was guided through the morning—showing her where things were kept, introducing her to favourite play areas, and making sure she felt part of the group.

Moments like these remind us that kindness is powerful. When children lead with empathy, they create a classroom where everyone belongs—and that’s something worth celebrating.
