TMC Stationery Drive: Helping Local Families Start the School Year Strong
As we approach the end of the year, Tamborine Mountain College is proud to support a meaningful community initiative to ensure every child starts the new school year ready to learn.
We have partnered with Beaucare, a local community organisation supporting families in need across the Scenic Rim. Each January, Beaucare provides book packs and essential school supplies to families who may not have the means to purchase them.
This is where our TMC community can make a difference. We are holding a Stationery Drive this Term to collect new school items, including:
- Exercise books (all year levels)
- Grid books
- Pencils, pens and erasers
- Rulers
- Calculators
- Glue Sticks
- Coloured pencils and pens
- And any other essential stationery families might need
All items must be new, so students receiving them can begin their school year with dignity and confidence.
Donations can be delivered to the students' classrooms/form rooms. Each room will have a box for collections during school hours. Every contribution, big or small, will help support a local student in their learning journey.
Let's show the strength of our TMC community and help set more children up for success.

QLD Youth Parliament Excursion
Earlier this term, our Primary Captains and Prefects represented Tamborine Mountain College at the 2025 Youth Parliament, held at Queensland’s Parliament House in Brisbane. The event brought together student leaders from schools across the state to experience first-hand how democratic processes and leadership operate within our parliamentary system.
Students had the opportunity to sit in the historic Legislative Assembly Chamber, participate in mock debates, and present their own ideas for improving their communities. They learned about the roles of the Speaker, Premier, and Opposition, and gained insight into how laws are proposed, debated, and passed. The interactive experience encouraged students to think critically, collaborate with peers, and communicate their perspectives respectfully—key skills for future leadership.
Our TMC leaders toured Parliament House, met with local members, and discussed issues that matter to young people today, from environmental sustainability to wellbeing in schools. They represented the College with confidence, maturity, and kindness throughout the day.

Pre Prep’s Highlights of Learning - Weeks 4 and 5
The Wattle class have been busy in their work and full of excitement creating their own “army missions.” Mrs Doniger designed an obstacle course to incorporate the sound of the week Z. Working as a team, the children carried cups of water through an obstacle course to help water our very dry garden.
They carefully balanced along the beam, crawled under benches, and helped one another over hurdles—making sure not to spill their precious water. When they reached the garden, they proudly poured the water onto the plants, celebrating their success together.
This experience encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, physical coordination, caring for the environment and early literacy. By following the children’s interest in army play, meaningful learning happened naturally—through imagination, cooperation, and shared joy.
While exploring the letter and sound of X, the children set off on a wonderful pirate adventure! Together, they created treasure maps marked with X, made pirate hats, and even built their own ship. With great excitement, our pirates and princesses climbed aboard, peering through their handmade telescopes to search for hidden treasure. The children decorated their telescopes with pride, then set off around the room and outdoor spaces to follow clues and find the X that marked the spot. It was a rich play experience full of imagination, teamwork, and joyful learning.
As part of our Get Grubby program provided by 'The Scenic Rim Council', the children have been developing a strong sense of curiosity and care for the outdoor environment. During our explorations, we discovered a range of insects and creatures, including a green tree frog and several caterpillars living on our lemon tree. The children were fascinated, watching how they moved and wondering about where they might live.
Mrs Walsh shared a special trick that caterpillars use to scare away predators. We observed how they poke out a red forked prong, similar to a snake’s tongue, while releasing a fruity scent. This discovery sparked rich conversations about life cycles, especially those of frogs and butterflies, and helped us introduce new vocabulary such as “habitat.”
Earlier this month, the children helped create a living garden small-world tray by planting chia and grass seeds. This provided a hands-on way to explore habitats more closely. The children arranged natural materials, talked about what each creature might need to survive, and gently cared for the space. After last week’s heavy rain (which even flooded the tray!), we were excited to see how much the grass had still grown. We also noticed that a lady beetle had moved in—making a little home of its own!
Through these ongoing experiences, the children are developing a deep appreciation for nature, showing empathy, responsibility, and respect for living things.
