At Tamborine Mountain College, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a shared responsibility and a core priority of our community.

We have recently reviewed and updated our Child Protection Handbook, which outlines the College’s commitment to creating and maintaining a child-safe environment, the rights of children and young people, and the processes in place to support safety, wellbeing and help-seeking.

An important part of being a child-safe organisation is ensuring that children, young people and families are informed, involved and able to have a voice. We want our policies to be clear, accessible and reflective of the needs of our community.

The Handbook explains:

• our commitment to child safety and student wellbeing
• how students are supported to understand their right to feel safe and to seek help
• how concerns about child safety can be raised and responded to
• the roles and responsibilities of staff and the College

We invite parents and carers to read the Child Protection Handbook and provide feedback. Your perspectives help ensure our approach remains strong, transparent and responsive, and supports ongoing improvement in how we protect and empower students.

Feedback can be provided by contacting the College directly or through the feedback form linked below. All feedback is welcomed and considered as part of our continuous improvement approach.

 Fiona Stevens - College Principal

We are proud to share that our Head of Primary, Mr Stevens, has formally stepped into the role of President of the Queensland Branch of Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA).

With the previous President moving on earlier this year, Mr Stevens has taken on this significant leadership opportunity ahead of schedule, an exciting and well-deserved recognition of his expertise and impact in primary education.

This role places Mark at the national table, representing Queensland, collaborating with leading educators, and shaping the future of Primary schooling across Australia.

For our College community, this means even greater access to forward thinking ideas, strong professional networks, and leadership that continues to evolve and inspire.

We are very proud of Mr Stevens for this outstanding achievement.

On Sunday the 2nd of March and Monday the 3rd of March, Archie Antonovic participated in the annual Lions Youth of the Year Award.

The competition included a panel interview (Sunday) and then two rounds of public speaking in front of an audience and judges (Monday).

The first round, participants were asked two unseen questions and had two minutes, on the spot, to speak on the subject.  The second round was a more traditional public speaking competition and needless to say, Archie excelled at both rounds.

Archie received much praise from the Audience for his ability to speak with such confidence and knowledge, as well as hold his own against competitors who were in an age bracket above him (Archie was the only year 11 in the competition).  For the unseen questions Archie spoke about AI as well as influential leaders where he had the room in laughter as he did an exquisite off the cuff impersonation of Bob Katter.

In the end, Archie did not proceed to the next round, but, as he is in year 11, will have the opportunity to compete again in 2027.

We caught our VET students in action as they work towards their Certificate II in Pre-Vocational Automotive and let’s just say, the future of the industry is looking bright (and very well dressed in high vis).

Our TMC students aren’t just along for the ride, they’re in the driver’s seat of their own future.

Our Year 11 and 12 Biology students recently swapped their textbooks for field kits, venturing to the Toohey Forest Education Centre in Brisbane for an intensive day of ecological surveying. The "Surveying the Natural Environment" program provided a hands-on bridge between classroom theory and real-world scientific inquiry.

Following a pre-visit from the Centre’s expert staff to sharpen their sampling techniques, students hit the ground running with two major investigations:

• Bird Biodiversity Surveys: Working in small groups across four distinct sites—ranging from urban fringes to natural bushland—students collected data to calculate Simpson’s Diversity Index (SDI). This exercise sparked great debate regarding the limitations of methodology and the impact of observer bias.
• Transect Analysis: Along a 70m transect transitioning from wet to dry sclerophyll forest, students used professional-grade equipment including Vernier data loggers, laser range-finders, and spherical densiometers. By measuring plant strata and abiotic factors like soil pH and light, they mapped exactly how environmental changes dictate species distribution.

Our seniors will soon be busy identifying trends and patterns in their shared data, using p-values and statistical analysis to support their findings and giving them the best footing to succeed in their upcoming Student Experiment for Senior Biology. It was a high-energy day of professional-standard fieldwork that has given our students a fantastic head start on their research requirements!

Our College STEM Club is reaching new heights this year, with an impressive 17 students from Years 7 through 12 stepping up to serve as STEM Ambassadors. These student leaders are dedicated to fostering a culture of curiosity and technical excellence across our campus.

Last week, a representative group of four ambassadors were invited to attend the 2026 Griffith University STEM Ambassador Conference: Jorgia Stanyer (Year 12), Archie Antonovic (Year 11), Felix Hooper (Year 9) and Oriel Thornton (Year 7).

This prestigious event brought together bright young minds from across the region to collaborate and learn from industry experts. During the conference, our students participated in workshops led by leaders in various STEM fields. Our ambassadors identified a specific high-impact focus area for the TMC STEM Club this year and initiated a strategic roadmap to turn their goals into reality.

The energy from the conference has already reached our TMC campus. Upon their return, the four attendees shared their insights with the broader Ambassador team. With collaboration and some further planning sessions ahead, the entire STEM Club team is getting ready to lead innovative science and technology initiatives within the College. We look forward to seeing the incredible projects these future leaders will launch throughout the year!
