A friendly reminder of our protocol regarding one-off bus travel for your child/ren. If your child/ren plan to use one of our bus services for a special occasion, such as traveling to a friend's house after school, we must receive written permission in advance before your child/ren will be allowed to board the bus.

This written permission is necessary for us to inform TMC staff members and the bus company of any additional travelers and to confirm whether there will be a fee for the travel.
 

Please email all bus travel permission to busservices@tmc.qld.com.au. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated, as it enables us to effectively coordinate bus services for our students.

Early in Term 1, Year 11 student Addison M undertook an early university course as a part of the Southern Cross University Scholars program. The program is designed to provide Year 11 or 12 students with the opportunity to experience university life and to dip their toes into the course work they will be engaging with in their chosen field.  When asked what the experience was like and if she would recommend it to other TMC students Addison stated, "Attending Southern Cross University afforded me the opportunity to delve deep into a real life University subject of interest to me, health science, and to find out about what day to day life of University is all about.  While undertaking this course I gained more academic skills which will hopefully guide me through my last 2 years of highschool.  My classes allowed me to mingle with current Bachelor students and other Scholars students and I was given a head start on my future studies in speech pathology while being in a comfortable, nurturing environment".  

Congratulations Addison, we hope you are but the first of many TMC students who take up this great opportunity.

On Monday 29th April, Jackson M in Year 12 participated in the 'Youfor2032' trials.  These trials provide students with a chance to determine their sporting aptitude with the aim of developing new talent for the 2032 Olympic Games set to be held in Brisbane.  Jackson participated in a range of physical challenges at Carrara Stadium.  When asked what the experience was like, Jackson stated that whilst he was "nervous at the start, the friendliness and positive competitive atmosphere made the day heaps of fun".  At the end of the day, Jackson was awarded 'Most Outstanding Performance", in fact he was measured in the top 2% of students in Australia and the Top 5% worldwide.  Jackson is now eagerly waiting to see which sports he will be selected to train for in preparation for the Olympics in 8 years time.  Congratulations Jackson, we can't wait to see you shine in the future.

This Thursday, Year 11 and 12 students participated in the RACQ Docudrama Program, which explored how young people can make more informed decisions as drivers and passengers to avoid dangerous driving situations. Through meaningful conversation, students were able to explore the ways they can plan ahead and choices that are available to them to protect themselves and others. We are passionate about preparing our students for the real world and are pleased to be working with RACQ.  Using a filmed mock car crash scene as a catalyst for a conversation, our students realised the power of choice and consequences and how they can employ strategies to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

During Week 2, the Year 11 cohort had the opportunity to travel the Bornhoffen PCYC Leadership Camp for 3 days. Whilst they were there, the students had the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, teamwork and communication as well as challenge themselves by pushing their boundaries. Activities included canoeing the length of Hinze Dam, Abseiling a 25 meter drop through the remnant rainforest and volcanic geology of Numinbah Valley, Hiking with full packs and gear, setting up camp and preparing their own meals, high ropes and the giant swing. Mrs Smith, Mr Andrews and myself were impressed with the perseverance of the students and their willingness to embrace new experiences and challenges head on.  Of course there were some moans and groans, but by the end of the camp it was clear that it had been a positive experience. 

When asked what their biggest take-aways from the camp were, some of the responses included:

"It was good for me to be able to prove myself that I can do certain activities that I didn't think I could do." (Josh A)

"I used my fear doing the high ropes and abseiling. It was very scary and I don't know how I even did it, but this time I did." (Alyssa C)

"I'm a lot less organised than what I would like to be, but it helped me become a lot more social". (Hamish T)

"There are way more layers behind everyone that you don't get to see at school." (Caleb A)

This week's RocknRoll the Dice Club had a visit from our very own TMC Principal Mrs Stevens. It was a hard fought battle of UNO but in the end Mrs Stevens was victorious over Cassie (Yr8) and Clelia (Yr7).

The RocknRoll the Dice Club is a great way for secondary students of different year levels to connect, have some fun and unwind at lunch and to listen to some music the students may not have heard before.

In Pre Prep Wattle, our Pre Preps have embarked on an exciting journey into the world of superheroes! Through engaging activities and discussions, they've been discovering what different superheroes do and what superpowers define their strengths. More importantly, they're exploring how these powers can be linked to our core values in our classroom of kindness and helpfulness.  As they delve deeper into this theme, our friends in Wattle are honing their artistic talents through drawing, mastering their fine motor skills through cutting, and boosting their physical abilities during physical circuits that we called 'Missions'. It's inspiring to see their enthusiasm and dedication as they learn and grow through this captivating exploration!

In Lilly Pilly class, the wheels of curiosity have been spinning as our young learners dive into the world of skateboards and how things move! This week, their creativity took flight as they embarked on the exciting task of designing their very own skateparks . Armed with pens and clipboards, the children let their imaginations run wild as they sketched out their ideas for the ultimate skateboarding haven. Together, they brainstormed the essential elements, deciding on the need for both flat surfaces and wavy ramps to create an exhilarating experience. With teamwork as their fuel, they got to work, using wooden blocks, loose parts, and ramps to bring their designs to life. It's incredible to witness their ingenuity and collaboration as they turn their visions into reality!

On Monday and Wednesday, Brodie H attended the South Coast Boys 10-11 Years Rugby League Trials.  Playing in the position of Five-Eight, Brodie was a key member of his side.  Speaking to Brodie, he stated that the trials were a great experience and he looks forward to hopefully representing that level again in the future.  Congratulations Brodie.

Last week Abel E attended the Hinterland District Rugby Trials held at TSS. Abel was surrounded by the region's best up and coming players, demonstrating a high level of skill himself.  We congratulate Abel on attending these trials.

Last weekend's Interschools SEQ regional showjumping championships at QSEC saw TMC riders making their mark in impressive fashion. Mia J secured 1st place in the Super 2phase 90cm secondary round, showcasing the team's talent. Emily S captured 7th place in the challenging AM5 90cm round, adding to the team's success.

Overall, TMC riders put on a stellar performance among 38 Secondary riders, with Mia J clinching a notable 3rd place. These achievements underscore the hard work and skill of TMC's showjumping team.

The competition also saw commendable performances from other TMC riders. In the 90cm category, Emily S earned a respectable 4th place, while Mia J secured 7th place. In the 1m round, Emily S grabbed an impressive 4th place finish, and Ashlee L secured 9th place.

Congratulations to Mia, Emily and Ashlee on their outstanding achievements at the Interschools SEQ championships!

Council extends community consultation period for the Draft Sport and Recreation Plan 2024-2034

Hi Tamborine Mountain College,

Due to an overwhelming response, Council has decided to extend its until 7 May 2024.

Council encourages individuals, businesses, and local community groups to share their feedback with us to help us better understand the unique needs of our community and to prioritise the strategic objectives and actions over the next 10 (ten) years. The primary objectives of the Draft Sport and Recreation Plan 2024-2034 include:

• Enhancing the community's quality of life through improved health, wellbeing, and physical activity,
• Offering a variety of sports and recreational opportunities,
• Strengthening collaborative efforts among stakeholders, and
• Guiding strategic investment in infrastructure with a focus on sustainability.

Community consultation allows the wider community an opportunity to review the draft strategy and provide feedback on how they would prioritise the actions Council has proposed to approach the management strategies.
