Year 5 Term Wrap Up

What an incredible term of learning it has been for our Year 5 students!

English: Students researched, compared and reported on the Powerful Owl and a bird of their choice, using scientific language to produce some very impressive information reports. We loved reading them!

Mathematics: We finished the term by exploring the transformation of shapes, symmetry and the practical application of 24 hour time.

HASS: Our economics unit focused on needs and wants. Students worked collaboratively to design their own island communities, deciding what their community would need and want to survive.

Science: What a highlight this term has been! From Science Week and our Owl Pellet Investigation to the exciting Raptor Show, students have been deeply engaged in learning about animal adaptations. A huge thank you to the wonderful Mr Schönherr for organising these outstanding experiences for our very lucky Year 5 students.

Health: Students completed their unit on interacting with others, developing strategies they can draw upon when faced with challenging or sensitive situations.

Media: We wrapped up with a creative design project, where students produced their own National Geographic Kids style articles.

It has been a rich and exciting term of learning, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by our students. All our students deserve a well earned break.

National Geographic Kids Articles

Our Year 5 students amazed us by turning their English information reports into dazzlingly designed articles worthy of National Geographic Kids. They showed incredible creativity, attention to detail and pride in their work, producing pieces that were not only eye catching but also full of fascinating scientific information. We could not be prouder of the effort, imagination and enthusiasm our students brought to this project.

Birds of Prey Show

Our Year 5 students were treated to a special Birds of Prey Show this term. They were fascinated to learn more about these magnificent animals and their unique adaptations. A highlight of the day was that every student who attended had the chance to have their photo taken with a beautiful Barn Owl.

Looking Ahead to Term 4

Term 4 promises to be an exciting finish to the year for our Year 5 students. In English, we will be exploring poetry, while in Mathematics we dive into data and chance. Our HASS unit will focus on natural hazards, and in Science we will turn our attention to Earth Science. Technology will see students getting hands-on with 3D printing, sparking creativity and design thinking.

Alongside classroom learning, there are plenty of fun events to look forward to, including the Swimming Carnival, The Aristocats Musical, the Primary Disco and Awards Night. We cannot wait to see all that our students will achieve in this final term of the year!
