Tomorrow is the College's Open Day. It promises to be a lot of fun with rides, games, displays, performances and food trucks. Please come along and enjoy the day!
With only one week to go, we hope you have your tickets organised for the Mother's Day gala event of the year!
TMC invites all mums, grandmothers, aunts and daughters to our Parents & Friends Association Mountain Mother's Day Lunch, to be held at Hampton Estate Wines on Friday, May 7. It promises to be a great social day out and a wonderful celebration. Tickets are available HERE. We hope to see you there.
A bright red sign has been erected at the car park ramp, reminding parents about every driver's obligation to exit our car park slowly and to carefully check the footpath along Beacon Road.
A reminder that our drop off zone is for the immediate pick up and drop off of children. These spaces have been working effectively over the last few months and have helped to make the peak time in the car park operate more smoothly.
Car park etiquette includes parking in the front car space in the pick up zone. This means that other parents will be able to safely pull in behind, rather than trying to reverse into the front space.
Thank you for keeping our car park safe.
TMC has registered for the Check-In Qld App. This is mandatory for hospitality venues as from the 1st May and will be rolled out to other businesses over upcoming months. We will be installing this COVID check-in method at TMC, with the start date for the new QR Code being Tuesday, May 4. We encourage all families to download the app before coming to our campus.

This week's featured image celebrates the return of the Cross Country Carnival in 2021. The full article is in the Sports News section.
In 2021, the Year 12s have been brewing up new ideas to bring our school together with fun activities. This week, the cohort organised a sausage sizzle with delicious snags, caramelised onion and even vegetarian options. Our school Captain, Dylan Sippel, our Nichols Sports Captain, CeCe Knight, our Cultural Captain, Lachlan Woodyatt, our Prefect, Hannah Dalton, our senior students Eugene Lee and Phoebe Fenton-Marshall and teacher, Mr Sababathy helped organise and executed an amazing barbeque whose smell brought everyone together and filling bellies after a long day of running cross country.
When asked, Mr Haskins said that “they were the best sausage and bread he had ever tasted”. The sausages were generously donated by Coles Pacific Pines and the bread donated from our very own local bakery. TMC is so fortunate to have these friendly connections that really show TMC’s place and importance in the community. The sausage sizzle raised over $300 which will be donated to OzHarvest. OzHarvest donates food to those who need it most. If you missed out on the sausage sizzle, the year 12s have plenty up their sleeves for more fun activities later in the year, so keep an eye out for upcoming news.
Elevate Education has released the dates for the next range of free parent webinars on offer. Elevate is an award-winning organisation that has been working with TMC to help students become more effective learners.

On Wednesday night, the Primary Year 5/6 debating teams competed in their first debate for the season. For many, this was their first ever experience of formal debating and there was a real sense of excitement and enthusiasm for the debates to begin. Both teams were debating the topic that 'A Good Book is Better than A Good Movie'. The two teams consist of:
Affirmative: Abby Anderson, Archie Antunovic, Madison Cacciola, Jessica Davis and Ariana Stevenson
Negative: James Haskins, Lili Heddle, Dylan Holmes, Lucus Regec and Isobel Stevens
The Affirmative team debated against Emmanuel College, whilst the Negative team was up against Coomera Anglican College. Both debates were highly competitive and very close, with the students coming up with some very convincing arguments as to why their cases were correct. In the end, the Affirmative team was successful in winning their debate with credit given to their ability to connect to the audience using a persuasive conversational style. The Negative team were unsuccessful in their debate, which, as the adjudicator pointed out, was extremely close. The students were complimented on the detail and depth of their arguments, their impressive manner and their ability to structure the debate.
When asked how she enjoyed her first debate, Year 5 student Ariana Stevenson said, “Our team was up against Emmanuel College. We won the debate, lucky for us, but the other team did great as well. All up, it was only slight changes that made us win, but we still have more debates to come!”. When asked what was so great about debating Ariana was adamant in saying, “I think all students should try debating because it is a great way to build your confidence and you get to have tons of fun with your amazing Debating Coach Mrs. Horn!”.
Overall the evening was a great success for the TMC debaters. The students gained valuable experience, saw the differing styles of other teams and learnt a great deal about the art of debating. A special mention must go to Mrs. Horn who has been working diligently preparing and coaching the students. There will be two more rounds of debates this term.

A group of scientists set out for the arctic circle. Unbeknownst to them, a great blizzard was moving in! As the wind gusted violently, the snow blinded them and formed great drifts that blocked their passage back to base camp. It's a good thing we have very clever year six students who are able to innovate and engineer structures and resources to help the group of scientists to survive! Today, they built igloos - much-needed shelter for the stranded research team.
Each Friday this term, the students of year six will tackle a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) team challenge inspired by the scenario above. The experience nurtures creativity, communication and effective problem-solving!

This week for our HASS unit we have been exploring indigenous culture and we discovered many wonderful things about the way that indigenous people lived: culture, ceremony, family and community. We discovered that Mt. Tamborine - is the territory of the Wangerriburras. The Yugambeh language is the origin of the name Tamborine, which means wild lime and refers to the finger lime trees that grow on the mountain. We created pictures of native Australian animals and looked at the Indigenous map of Australia, discovering that there are over 200 hundred different tribal/family groups. We even created our own corroboree and learnt about survival needs.

In the Kindy group following on from the beautiful googly eyed creations created last week, some stick puppets with googly eyes were made. They were so much fun to make and were very cute!
A delicious smell could be smelt coming from the kindy class on Tuesday as they made some tasty ANZAC biscuits. The children were very excited and did a great job of taking turns while putting ingredients into the bowl. The best part was having them to eat at the end!
In Preprep the children explored the Sound of the week: AAAA. Vic group listened to a Dr Seuss story called '10 Apples on top.'
Doing what the early years do best integrating key learning areas we were able to include both numeracy and literacy concepts.
Numeracy skills being developed:
Literacy skills:
We looked at some real apples labelling the different parts of an apple before eating a piece! 🍎
Val group had an engaged group interested in racing cars on Wednesday. They were facilitated to measure how far their car travelled using numerals positioned on the ground, conversing with each other discussing which car traveled the furthest? Using writing materials they were extended to draw their own ramp design. It was a delight to notice their sustained concentration as they investigated slopes, force and motion.
Emotions and learning to recognise how others feel is an important aspect of a child’s time in Preprep. Social and emotional skills are frequently taught and supported helping to build better relationships. While reading ‘Gruffalo's Child’ and learning to recognise the sound ssss Val explored the emotions of scared and sad.
We can’t forget about our lovely Mums/Grandmothers who are celebrating their special day next weekend. The ELC children have been busy creating a special gift for you! A reminder that you have been invited to a Mother’s Day lunch on 7 May by the P & F Association.
Playtime group was back on Thursday, 9 families attended, many of whom were familiar returning families from last term. We can now hear many greeting each by name, pleased to have a lovely space to play and meet together. This week Miss Phair facilitated providing the children with a sensory experience of coconut playdough, car painting and a play outside.

On Wednesday the 28th of April, Students from prep to year 12 competed against each other at cross country at Long road. Each student was tasked with running a distance that ranged from 500m to 5km, depending on how old they were turning this year. Cross country is done as part of the house championship where each of the three houses, Walton, Nicholls and Kyle, compete against each other in order to win the Melbourne Cup for 2021. The top three students from each age group will get the exciting opportunity to compete at districts, which is being held on Tuesday the 4th of May.
Students were also able to show off their team spirit by dressing up in their house colours. A variety of students wore colourful capes, tutus and facepaint while competing, with others bringing handmade signs and pom-poms to cheer on their fellow classmates and housemates. It was wonderful to see the eye-catching variety of colours throughout the day and see students' spirits shine bright!
All competitors and helpers displayed great sportsmanship and commitment in their races and even though there were only three spots that would receive a ribbon, we all know that everyone truly deserves to be called a winner. We would like to thank all the time and effort put in by Mr O’loughlan, the event director, and all of the teachers and staff who helped out to make this event possible. We would also like to congratulate all the winners of each age group.
