As the school year draws to a close, we'd like to acknowledge the efforts of our wonderful students and staff. We have experienced another year of lockdowns and life under a "new normal". We have had weather events (over 200 mls on Wednesday!) and wonderful sunny days with visits from Spike the echidna. Throughout it all, our school community has shown its strength, compassion, and valour. 

We'd like to express our gratitude to the parents and guardians of our students for your support throughout the year. 

We'd also like to take this opportunity to say farewell to staff who are moving on to the next chapter of their career. We wish them all the best for their future.

Students and teachers dressed up in their finest to celebrate the graduation of our 2021 Year 12 cohort. The Formal was held at the spectacular Intercontinental Resort, Sanctuary Cove. Highlights included food and dancing, with many laughs featured throughout the evening. We wish our graduating class of 2021 happiness, health and success for next year and beyond. We had a brilliant time celebrating with you all and we can't wait to see your faces come through our doors again one day.

Join us for the first TMC Family Excursion to see the APT 10 at GOMA/QAG Saturday 26th February 2022. All Welcome!

We are delighted to invite expressions of interest from families who would like to join us on a family day trip into Brisbane Gallery of Modern Art/Queensland Art Gallery to see the Asian Pacific Triennial APT 10. This flagship event is one not to be missed by adults and children alike. The exhibition has lots of fun learning activities for children.

We would leave the College by bus at 10 am and return in the afternoon. Your cost would be $10 per seat on the bus. Entry to GOMA/QAG is free for this exhibition.

Ms Jenny Radley

Year 10 student, Charlotte Flynn-Grant, has been part of the Adopt A Grandparent since it's inception. Adopt A Grandparent is an initiative to help us all engage with elderly residents living in Aged Care facilities.

As part of the initiative, Charlotte write cards to aged care residents who have no family for special events such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas. She has donated all her "childhood" soft toys which go to dementia patients as companions or help with their sensory needs. Charlotte helps with pick up and deliveries and has been a driving force in growing the movement.

The impact Charlotte makes is not measured by any means other than the joy it brings the Aged Care resident, the care facilities and for some the families who may not be able to make it to homes particularly due to border restrictions. 

Charlotte and her mother, Kelly, begin the initiative with with six residents at a home where her Great-Grandparents resided and today - although not a registered charity, the coordination of gifts and the connections of many women have meant Adopt A Grandparent now gift to around 500 residents in care.   

Although humble when asked about her contribution, the program couldn't have got to where it is without Charlotte.

Mrs Fiona Stevens - Head of Secondary

On Wednesday, our House Spirit Carnival went ahead with an indoor program. Students were put into teams in their house groups and showed their competitive side, with teams ready to do whatever it takes to secure the win!

House spirit was on full display with students competing in various activities and challenges in order to gain as many points as possible for their house. 

These activities included building spaghetti towers, a house debate, silent ball, creating a device to safely drop an egg, trivia and whiteboard Pictionary. 

Unfortunately, due to the weather event, the day was cut short, but that didn't stop the students from having a great morning with great house spirit and competitive attitudes. 

The final scores are in and I can reveal that in Third place went to Kyle on 315 points, Second place went to Walton on 405 points, meaning that our first place winners were Nicholls on 650 points! Congratulations Nicholls on an amazing effort!

Miss Chanel Fletcher - Sports Coordinator

TMC is very proud that the hard work of our Year 12 students and their teachers has paid off, with early university offers being made to the vast majority of the cohort. Early offers are made usually on the basis of achievement in their Internal Assessments, an opportunity we work hard to provide to take some of the pressure off external exams and atar results for our students. It takes a little extra work in terms of students' applications, but it is well worth it. 

Of the 19 students who have applied for university, 15 have already received early offers from tertiary institutions, many of which were acknowledged on Awards Day last Thursday. A further number of offers were made on Friday from Griffith and QUT. Phoebe Fenton-Marshall, recent College Graduate, is looking at pursuing a career in the Arts industry, and was recently offered her first preference, a Bachelor of Creative Industries at QUT: " It feels a relief to not have to worry about ATAR results; it’s good knowing I already have a place!"

The major university offer rounds are late December to mid-January, with atars released on the 17th of December. Although this may not seem too far off it can be a stressful wait for Queensland students across the state, so we are very pleased many of ours have some certainty already. We can't wait to hear about our graduates' success in future years to come.

After the Guard of Honour, our Year 12 students went down to Slideways at Pimpama for a go-karting experience with purpose. Not only did our soon-to-be graduates have fun, but they learnt about the importance of safe driving maneuvers. Students had a memorable day with their peers and teachers.

Cy in Year 10 had an amazing time during his work experience week at The Abbey Museum at Caboolture. Cy assisted the museum with implementing their education programme and helping with their upcoming Ancient Egypt exhibit.   All made possible by Miss Black, our Year 9 & 10 Co-ordinator.

All Primary students who reached Level 9 and 10 this year were invited to participate in the Head of Primary's morning tea held on Friday. Students from Prep through to Year 6 enjoyed the special treat. Well done to these students.

On the final Friday of term, the students of Year 6 celebrated the beginning of their secondary school journeys!  Mother Nature tried to rain on our parade, but we all rallied together to create an experience to remember.

The students entered the school assembly hall to the applause of their friends and family members.  They sang a fitting farewell (thank you Mrs Addison!), before joining their nearest and dearest gathered in the hall.  The audience enjoyed speeches from Mrs Melbourne, Mr Stevens, and the primary captains, Emily and Maison.  The captains spoke of the cohort's transformation from little cubs, to fully grown lions and lionesses! 

There was laughter and there were tears as we reflected on our year together with many photographs, awards and gifts.  The class performed the waltz with grace and style, and the heel and toe polka was a joyous finale.  

The event ended with a delicious luncheon held in our classrooms - complete with fairy lights, a photo booth and a graduation cake. 

Thank you to all who attended, and for our families for supporting us through a tricky week!  We cherish the time we have had with Year 6, and wish our students all the best for the schooling adventures to come!

Dear ELC families, we have arrived to the last week of the Kindy/Pre Prep program which means it’s time to say goodbye to all of our children who are moving onto Prep next year. It is also the time to thank you all for your support.

All the children have worked so hard this year and it has been a pleasure to watch them all grow into independent developing Prep children, we wish them all a fantastic smooth transition to school.

We have had a very wet end of year with all the heavy rain which has caused lots of excitement within the Pre Prep room with discussions and activities focussing around rainclouds, storms and floods. We did a fantastic science experiment using shaving foam to create a rain cloud in a jar. The children all had their own document to record their predictions.  The wet weather meant indoor play days so we made good use of our classroom space and created lots of cubby’s and dens using blankets, tables and chairs.

One of our friends brought in a couple of Cicadas for show and share this week so we used the internet to investigate their habitats and life cycles.

We celebrated our last day with a Christmas dress up day with a movie and popcorn.

I would like to farewell and wish Mrs. Ashley all the best in her future teaching career for 2022.  Thank you for your outstanding efforts in establishing  the ELC to gain an Exceeding rating, we will miss her warm and bubbly nature with all of the families and children.       

OSHC

Over the last few weeks of term in the OSHC program we have been cooking muffins, Lemonade, and icing christmas cookies.  Cubby building and lego creations have also dominated the children’s activity choices over the past few weeks. In the wind down to the end of year we have been doing a spontaneous program based largely on the children's requests of the day.

Please look out for the OSHC booking form for 2022 to make your before and after school care arrangements for next year! 

A message from Mrs. Baillie.

It is a sad Goodbye. I wish all of my OSHC friends a farewell . We have had such a fantastic time together these past two years. And you have all given me very fond memories to take forward with me into my future ventures. I can truthfully say that this group of children have been one of the most exceptional groups that I have had the pleasure of working with over my 25 year career and I will truly miss each and every one of them.

As the year comes to a close our Equestrian team attended the 'Jumping State Teams Greg Grant Saddlery IQ & PCQ Invitational' event. National qualifying riders from both Pony Club and Interschool QLD were invited to the competition on the weekend at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. The following students from our TMC Equestrian team attended; Cailtin Ward, Talia Criss, Ashlee Lowe, Sienna White, and Grace Fullarton. We're proud of all our students for representing TMC and especially Caitlin Ward for attending with her two horses even after graduating Year 12!

Our Students did an amazing job against very competitive schools, with the following placings;

80cm- Sienna White placed 2nd in teams

80cm- Cailtin Ward placed 4th in teams

95cm- Ashlee Lowe placed 2nd in teams

1.05 cm- Ashlee Lowe placed 3rd in teams

1.05 cm- Talia Criss placed 6th in teams
