From The Principal
Visiting classrooms and seeing our children excited and ready to begin this year’s learning journey has been a great privilege for me this week. On Monday afternoon as I was assisting with car park duty, I overheard several parents ask their child, “How was your first day?” The answer was the same which I received as a parent when I asked that question on Monday - “Fantastic!”
While we may not receive such enthusiastic responses everyday, at TMC we do strive to make each day an enjoyable and engaging experience in education.
Our College parents and guardians have an integral role to play in this. Supporting your child’s learning at home will set them up for success. The best way parents can do this is through the following strategies:
- Have a designated space for your child to complete any schoolwork.
- Have a routine or a plan for when that schoolwork is to be done.
- Know what the expectations are for your child (ie home readers, sight words, topic revision, assignment work etc)
- Empower your child to complete the work themselves. As the child gets older, parental input into the work itself needs to be reduced.
- Communicate with your child’s teacher.
TMC is running the following parent evenings next Tuesday:
- Primary Meet the Teacher 4:30pm to 5:30 pm
- Year 7 Parent Information Night 5pm to 6pm
- Year 11 Parent Information Night 6 pm to 7pm
The following week, TMC is hosting an Elevate Education Parent Seminar on Thursday 9th February from 5:30pm- 6:30pm that focuses on:
- How best to support your child at home in developing an effective study timetable
- How to motivate and support your child in working consistently
- How to manage technological distractions such as social media
- How to help your child prioritise tasks
There is no cost to parents for the seminar and the evening will provide information and practical skills to help you assist your child to manage their studies.
Together, we can set our children up for a great academic year.
