Last week our Year 10 Business class took part in an Ideas Camp at Bond University. They had the fantastic opportunity to participate in a workshop helping them to understand elements of the entrepreneurial process, work in teams to develop skills relevant to the entrepreneurship and innovation sector and learn the challenges businesses today face in start-up ventures. The students were able to meet like minded teens from schools across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales as well as successful young business owners. Despite some initial nerves about sitting with new people the students soon settled in and had a great day, with a personal highlight of mine being some of the questions posed to guest speakers, although student highlights may include the campus cafe and the minibus playlist.

Warrant Officer Class 2 Dean Close Infantry and Corporal Ben Morey Infantry Soldier visited TMC to discuss all of the options for students interested in joining the Australian Defence Force. Students were given information regarding Gap Year Programs, Officer entry, general entry and the Australian Defence Force Academy. Students were able to ask lots of questions very specific to their own pathways.

Last week on Friday the Year 10 Science students conducted an experiment at the school oval. The experiment was to construct a simple 2L coke bottle, some water and an air pump together. They did this because they wanted to explore the concept of Newton's Third Law by launching the rocket. This demonstrated action and reaction forces. The students learnt about how changing the amount of water impacts the height that the rocket flies
This week was book week. To celebrate this, the secondary SRC ran many fun activities for the secondary school where each day had a different theme. On Monday, students wrote Book Reviews for their favourite books that ranged from children's books all the way to Stephen King novels. Tuesday, students participated in Book Bingo where they had to name books to get Bingo. For example, “Name a book with a colour in the title", where many wrote books like Green Eggs and Ham or the Red Queen. On Wednesday, students participated in a Book "Guess Who" of characters and book titles based on a bad-sentence summary, where the Harry Potter Series = "Guy who needs a nose has an unhealthy obsession with a gifted orphan". Students who participated received a bookmark and entered a raffle that will be drawn on Monday.
Miss Radcliffe, the teacher who coordinated the events said that “It was a really enjoyable experience to see everyone involved in book week and the students had a great time. A special thank you to the SRC members and the students who helped out on each day.”
We would also like to thank everyone who participated in the activities each day, it wouldn’t have been successful without everyone who got involved and gave it a go!
On Wednesday, students from Year 5 and 6 were fortunate enough to have former Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys and New Zealand International Rugby League player, Jordan Kahu come and visit. Jordan spoke to the students about what it was like being a professional athlete, his NZ and Maori heritage as well as his new career path as a professional photographer and videographer. He also managed to sneak in a few games of 'Red Rover' and Touch Football, where students were able to showcase their speed and evasion skills. TMC would like to thank Jordan for providing us with this great opportunity.

P-3 Athletics Carnival is next week! The carnival will involve all students from Prep - 3. The details are:
Students are encouraged to accessorise in their house colours to promote their house spirit. For example; coloured zinc, ribbons, tutu, sweatbands etc. Students must still wear their sports uniform, running shoes and school bucket hat. It would be great to have parents and family join us at this wonderful event.
Last week, Year 4 had a fantastic journey into science, experimenting with homemade objects. We completed two experiments each day and used objects that could be found in any home.
On Monday, we created some speakers out of cups and cardboard rolls. We then made raisins dance in water by creating a chemical reaction.
On Tuesday, we looked at how plugs worked by looking at pressure. We did this by using Ziplock bags filled with water, which we stuck pencils through. This was so much fun as we challenged each other to see how many pencils could be used!
On Wednesday, we investigated how a grassland habitat’s ecosystem could survive with small amounts of water. We used paper towels, food colouring and water and we discovered that the colours mixed together as well.
Last was a great experience for all the budding young scientists and engineers!
