This theme of this year's Book Week was, 'Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds". TMC celebrated with a dress up day last Friday and some fun-filled activities this week. Students from Years 7 to 12 participated in a daily quest to solve riddles and codes - all inspired by books. On Thursday, Ms Green ran a lunchtime Harry Potter Trivia Competition. The teams ranged from Year 6 to 12 students and teachers. The Year 12s were very happy to win the competition (especially as they defeated the teachers by one point).

National Skills Week
This week along with book week, we celebrated National Skills Week. National Skills Week is dedicated to raising the profile and status of vocational learning and dispelling outdated myths. Vocational Education and Training (VET) has been the foundation of Australia's strong and vibrant economy and offers students a great diversity of new and exciting career paths and supports primary industry, tourism, hospitality, construction, and many other trade based industries.
Here at TMC we currently have 39 students across years 10, 11, and 12 studying a vocational course in addition to their school subjects. Students study both online and in face-to-face training. These range across many areas from pre-vocational apprenticeship trade courses to business, web design, animal studies, health, tourism, fashion, childcare, music, and fitness. We also currently have 11 school-based trainees studying a Certificate III in Business while also working one day per week with their employer. In 2022 we hope to expand this with 21 students already enrolled in courses ready to start in January.
This week saw the Year 9 cohort grab their bags, sleeping bags, pillows and towels and head off on their much anticipated annual camp. This year, the camp was help at the Noosa Northshore Retreat and was designed to give students the opportunity to try new experiences and to challenge themselves physically and mentally, whilst being surrounded by the pristine beauty of the Great Sandy National Park. The camp started Monday with a quick 3hr Bus ride up the M1 and over the Noosa River by ferry to the retreat.
Once there, Year 9 were allocated their cabins, had lunch, listened to the quick orientation by the camp guides and were off on their first adventure. 9Val went down the beach to try their hand at surfing and 9Vic went off mountain biking along the Great Sandy Trail. After some chilly waves and wipeouts and a few skids and stacks on the bikes, the students returned to camp for dinner and an all out 3 way war in an intense game of Laser Skirmish on a especially made course. Many a tale of heroism and daring was told after the battle with the Blue team declared the ultimate winners.
Day two was all about pushing the students limits and encouraging them to go beyond the comfort zone. Vic engaged in rock climbing and high ropes, whilst Val did the rock climbing and the mountain biking. It was great to see the sense of elation that the students felt having conquered the high ropes, which were suspended 12 meters above the ground on large telegraph polls with no nets and no platforms. Later that night after a delicious pizza dinner, the whole group donned warm cloths and grabbed torches and set out on a night hike in the national park. Needless to say it was a tired and satisfied group of campers who returned to collapse into bed after a huge day of adventuring.
The final day saw Vic having the chance to go surfing whilst Val ventured up the high ropes. Again the high ropes brought out the best in the students, who conquered fear and extended their limits. At the beach Vic were greeted with a perfect day with light offshore breezes 1-2 foot swell and crystal clear 23 degree water. It was beautiful! Again the students had a ball, many never having surfed before.
Lunch time saw an end to the camp, with a load of very tired yet happy campers piling back into the bus for the ride home. A big thank you must be given to Chris from Tamborine Mountain Coaches for getting the students there and back, safe and sound. Another big thanks must go to Mrs. Sullivan, Mr. Haskins and Mr. Talati for supporting the students on camp and a huge thank you to Ms. Black for all her efforts in organizing the trip.

MS Readathon 2021
A massive thank you for your fundraising efforts so far, we have now raised over $5000 as a school! There are just 4 days left, last chance to fundraise!
Thank you to those families and students who have registered and already begun fundraising as part of the 'Readathon' challenge. The aim is to read as many books as possible and raise money to help families affected by Multiple Sclerosis. We have already had to revise our school target multiple times due to our excellent fundraising. All Primary students have been informed of this very worthy cause and encouraged to register, record the books they've read (including writing book reviews) and fundraise.
