COVID & TMC FAQ
As QLD adapts to 2022's Covid-normal, here are the answers to some frequently asked questions the College is currently receiving:
QUESTION
If a parent tests positive, does the child have to isolate?
ANSWER
Yes. All members of the family must isolate if a house-hold member tests positive.
QUESTION
How long do we isolate for?
ANSWER
The day you test positive, plus seven more days. For example, if your child tests positive on Wednesday, they can return to school on Thursday the following week.
QUESTION
Can I send my child to school if they are sick, but have tested negative to a RAT/PCR test?
ANSWER
No. The Health Directive requires that children sick with symptoms that align with those of Covid-19 stay at home until they are well. The College is directed to send students home if they present at school unwell.
QUESTION
If my child has completed their isolation period, they are symptom free and about to return to school the next day when their sibling tests positive, does the recovered child have to isolate for a further 7 days?
ANSWER
No. The child who was positive for COVID and has completed their full period of isolation may return to school if they are symptom-free.
QUESTION
If my child has isolated for the full period (positive test day + 7 more days) do they have to be tested before returning to school?
ANSWER
They must not have a fever, sore throat, runny nose, or a cough that is bad or getting worse, on day 7 of isolation.
If they have a fever, sore throat, runny nose, or a cough that is bad or getting worse, on day 7 of your isolation, they will need to remain in isolation until those symptoms have gone away.
They do not need another COVID-19 test to end the isolation period.
Some people still have a mild dry cough, mild fatigue or loss of taste of smell after being sick with COVID-19 – they do not need to stay in isolation if they still have these symptoms.
Drinking Water
It is important for our children's health that they stay hydrated throughout the day. Filtered water is available for students to drink from the College bubblers. Students are also welcome to bring a drink bottle.
Students wishing to purchase a bottle of water can do so from the SnackShop or administration for $1.00.
COVID Cases Update Week 9
Our staff will maintain the privacy of any child who tests positive, so please respect that they can not discuss private information with other families. The College does not identify if particular cases are in a VIC or VAL class, as all cohorts spend time together learning inside, eating and playing outside, as well as for privacy reasons. Specifying VIC or VAL could detrimentally reduce the awareness of the other class.
Given the current outbreak it is to be expected that cases will occur from time to time, and the staff at the College are following all guidelines to create the safest environment possible. As always, please monitor your child for any signs of the following and perform a PCR or RAT. If they have any of these symptoms, do not send them to school:
fever
coughing
sore throat
shortness of breath.
Other symptoms may sometimes include:
runny nose or congestion
headache or fatigue
muscle or joint pains
nausea or loss of appetite
diarrhoea or vomiting
temporary loss of smell or altered sense of taste.
If you or anyone in your family tests positive please report this to us so we can record this information. Under the current Health Directive we must keep a record of any students who test positive or are isolating as a close contact.

Kindness Afternoon
On Wednesday, Y7, Y8 and Y9 students had a bit of time out of lessons to consider KINDNESS.
The afternoon was broken down into two parts - Kindness to Self and Kindness to others. There were some very healthy discussions, activities, videos and strategies that students took a lot from.
It’s easy to find ways to be kind to others but it starts with being kind to yourself - The girls had more trouble with this and were quick to verbalise their faults. Positive self talk is so important in the teenage years.
Practice everyday doing at least one kind action for someone else and one kind action for yourself. You’ll be amazed by how fabulous you feel at the end of a week

Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia Seminar
On Wednesday, students in Year 10, 11 and 12 participated in a seminar held by presenters from the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia. PPFA is committed to supporting teenagers who suffer severe period pain, pelvic pain, and endometriosis to allow them to fulfill their potential and live the best life possible. To do this, they are committed to bringing medically responsible, positive, and interactive education to schools in Australia.
The presentation provides the latest in modern knowledge, incorporating new neuroscience of pain. For students with pain, this educational seminar introduced helpful self-management strategies which students can try themselves immediately, and provides guidance on where to find further good quality information and when to seek professional health advice. For those without pain, it introduced concepts that will allow them to make good health decisions if pain affects their lives in the future and provided helpful tips on how to support friends, family members and colleagues in the future.
Overall, our students reported that they found the presentation to be a valuable experience that they will be able to apply in their lives. A key statistic that students remember was that 1 in 10 males suffer from pelvic floor pain and 2 in 10 16-18 year old girls had severe pain with periods and 26% had missed school because of period symptoms. By learning about the strategies of pain management and understanding the barriers that students face, at TMC our students will be better equipped to manage their symptoms and they are informed on where to access reliable information.
We also received wonderful feedback from presenters, Kate and Sam:
"Can I please take this opportunity to say how grateful Sam and I were to have the opportunity to work with your beautiful staff and students yesterday afternoon. Your students were honest, respectful, and engaged throughout. The students with a uterus seemed particularly pleased that the student without a uterus received the same information as them."

Elevate Program by Zoe Close 12 Vic
This week, students in year 7, 11 and 12 took part in an Elevate study program. The students learned about time management, study skills, revision techniques and where to find resources. The responses from the students showed that it had a positive impact on their study skills, with them also learning new skills and techniques for their future assessments. We would like to thank the Elevate team for coming to the school and teaching these lessons to us.

New P-3 Parent Facebook Groups & PALs
The College will soon start four new Facebook Groups for the families of the children in Prep - Year 3. These official FB pages will replace the parent contact lists previously distributed.
The purpose of these groups is to connect our families and be a respectful, fun space for people to share information, photos and events. Only parents in the particular year level will be able to join these groups. Parents will require a FB account to access their child's class page.
TMC will create the groups, but we need some parent assistance from the Parent Advisory Liaisons (PALs) and Mr Stevens would love to hear from you if you can volunteer to help as a new PAL. The role is not time consuming at all. Please email headofprimary@tmc.qld.edu.au to volunteer.
The PAL role:
Has a goal of supporting the classroom teacher and P&F committee in nurturing a sense of community within the class group. The role is integral to developing and maintaining a school culture that is friendly and inclusive for students, their families and staff.
To be welcoming, approachable, respectful and sensitive to others.
Assist the College in moderating the class FB page, according to the page rules.
Organise/advertise opportunities for parents and children to meet by letting families know about social activities for the class (e.g. school holiday get togethers, class parties).
Have an awareness of, and promote, P&F initiatives
Assist with the communication flow between the P&F and class families.
Communicate to the teacher and parents any class families in need of support (eg. illness, disaster, bereavement) and assist in enlisting class volunteers when appropriate.
Lego Club with Mrs Sands
Each Tuesday at lunch time, Mrs Sands will be running a Lego club for students in Years 3-6. It will be held in PLC4.
If you're as obsessed with lego as Mrs Sands is, we'd love for you to join us. We have lots of different Lego sets to build, as well as some loose Lego for free-building.
Get in quick though... students are lined up for blocks! (Get it?! Blocks!! Don't you just love Lego humour?)

Scholastic Book Club - Orders Close Sunday 8th May!
One of the best gifts any parent can give a child is the love of books and the joy and benefits of independent reading for fun. Children who read at home, or are read to, have a head start on reading success in school.
Our School participates in the Scholastic Book Club. Up to twice a term, catalogues containing a selection of books for all ages, are sent home with children. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our classrooms.
It is easy to order. The Book Club Loop platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
