On Tuesday, TMC held a Twos-Day dress up day. Students were assigned to dress up as something related to the number 2, in the spirit of the 22/2/22. There were an amazing variety of outfits worn, including tutus, different coloured clothing, costumes and much more. Each student was also tasked with bringing in $2, in order to help save up for a brand new water station in the secondary campus. From the fundraiser we were able to raise $333, which is an amazing achievement. The Primary raised just under $200 which will be used to purchase reading resources. Thank you to all who participated. Everyone did an amazing job and looked great.

Meet Two of Our New Teachers at TMC by Jorgia Stanyer 8 VIC
This year we have some new teachers who have joined the school, in both the primary and secondary. Some of these teachers include Mr. Hadley and Mr. Schönherr.
Mr. Hadley is a Math & Science teacher. He recently came from LORDS (Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District) and began teaching at TMC at the start of this year. On asking Mr. Hadley about his career, he shared that he believes in being a lifelong learner. Following his graduation in Year 12, he decided to go straight to University because of his strong interest and passion for science. Mr. Hadley’s favourite part of being a teacher is that he can have fun with students while learning. He found that having an honest and positive relationship with students helped him to teach curriculum content in an engaging manner for students. During his time at TMC so far, Mr. Hadley stated that he is inspired by the culture and connectedness across the campuses.
Mr. Schönherr is a Year 5 teacher at our College. He recently came from College Maningrida, an Indigenous school in the Northern Territory. Interestingly, he was born in the Netherlands and came to Australia in 2007. He soon had the biggest adventure of his life with his wife. On arriving in Australia he worked with koalas and seals. He then travelled to the Northern Territory and lived there for 10 years and taught at the Indigenous school. With a passion for health and fitness, Mr. Schönherr loves exploring and the outdoors. Mr. Schönherr’s favourite part of being a teacher is when he is able to help students understand and explain challenging concepts, that 'lightbulb moment'. He believes that being a teacher is a very rewarding career. Mr. Schönherr is really looking forward to participating in the Math Project Team with other staff to further develop our programs. Mr. Schönherr began teaching at TMC because his wife encouraged him to try something new. Since he last worked in the Northern Territory, he joyfully shared that they have mostly worn T-Shirts and shorts, a strong contrast to wearing a suit and tie.
We would like to welcome all the new teachers and are excited to have them as a part of the TMC community. I look forward to completing more interviews in the weeks to come to introduce our new teaching staff to our College community.
Meet Two More New Teachers by Zoe Close 12Vic
As the new year has arrived at TMC, we have had the opportunity to welcome some new teachers to our school. We have had a number of new teachers join our school, including secondary teachers, Ms Alexander and Ms Smith.
Ms Alexander was previously an assistant principal at Elizabeth North Primary School in South Australia, and says that she is most looking forward to the students, being a part of a community and getting involved in the extracurricular activities on offer at the College. Also, she informed me that she is a big netball fan, having previously coached netball, and loves to travel and bushwalk. She also has 3 kids that go to our school and enjoys spending time with her family. Lastly, she mentioned that the reason why she wanted to come to the school was due to how as a parent, she loved sending her kids to the school, while also liking how it was a small school and up on the mountain.
Another new teacher we have at the school is Ms Smith, who came from Pimpama State Secondary College. At TMC Ms Smith is teaching maths, science and chemistry. She says that her favourite part of being a teacher is helping students understand a difficult problem and she is looking forward to working with our amazing teachers and increasing the passion for STEM among students. She says that she loves science, being a mother of 2 boys and previously being an environmental scientist before teaching. Lastly, Ms Smith mentioned that the reason she came to the school was due to the positive reviews and culture of the school.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new teachers and we can’t wait to have them be a part of our school for years to come.
COVID Cases Update
Our staff will maintain the privacy of any child who tests positive, so please respect that they can not discuss private information with other families. The College does not identify if particular cases are in a VIC or VAL class, as all cohorts spend time together learning inside, eating and playing outside, as well as for privacy reasons. Specifying VIC or VAL could detrimentally reduce the awareness of the other class.
Given the current outbreak it is to be expected that cases will occur from time to time, and the staff at the College are following all guidelines to create the safest environment possible. As always, please monitor your child for any signs of the following and perform a PCR or RAT. If they have any of these symptoms, do not send them to school:
fever
coughing
sore throat
shortness of breath.
Other symptoms may sometimes include:
runny nose or congestion
headache or fatigue
muscle or joint pains
nausea or loss of appetite
diarrhoea or vomiting
temporary loss of smell or altered sense of taste.
If you or anyone in your family tests positive please report this to us so we can record this information. Under the current Health Directive we must keep a record of any students who test positive or are isolating as a close contact.

Work Experience
Tom P has recently commenced work experience with Boonah Sheds. Tom knows that he wants to have a trade career, and has taken on work experience to decide which trade pathway he prefers. His work experience will allow him to test multiple disciplines and skillsets, with everything from customer service and spreadsheets, to concrete and construction. Tom has taken on this task with a great sense of maturity and we are so proud of the way he is embracing new opportunities. Well done Tom!

Certificate II in Active Volunteering
For the first time, students in year 10 are working towards a Certificate II in Active Volunteering. As part of the certificate students complete 20 hours of volunteer work both at school and in the community. As part of these volunteer hours, year 10 students are helping with reading practice for our Year 5 and 6 students during class time each Thursday and Friday. The students all had a great time getting to know each other.

Year 6 Marine Biology Tour to North QLD
In June this year, students and staff from Year 6 will undertake a tour to North Queensland, and be involved in activities and experiences based upon the scientific studies of marine biology and ecology. This trip forms a central part of the study of science in Year 6 and promises to increase our children’s engagement and understanding of our natural world, as well as create the independence that children need as they start to transition into Secondary schooling.
Eye on the Reef Program, Presentation by Marine Naturalists, Reef Survey, Underwater Observatory, Touch Tank, Fish Feeding, Q&A session with biologists
As you can see, this highly educational and memorable tour promises to be an absolute highlight of our children’s schooling experience.
Year 2 - Self Portraits
For art, this term Year 2 have been exploring different mediums to create self-portraits. We used a photograph of ourselves as we explored shape, line and colouring using markers and whiteboards. This also fostered our listening skills and ability to follow instructions. We have since completed our self-portraits using lead pencil and will add to these over the coming weeks, using crayons and watercolours.

Early Learning News
From the Early Learning Centre Director
The ELC children have been very busy over the last few weeks so choosing a few highlights is very tricky.
Kindy class have engaged with provisions to support learning through the ‘RainBow Fish’ story. They enjoyed painting plate fish with lots of bright colours. Just like the Rainbow Fish everyone did an amazing job sharing and taking turns with the paint and glitter. Well done!
During the introduction this month of show and share many more children have shined demonstrating confidence to share a little about themselves developing their language skills.
A new song called ‘Tell me what your name is, I wonder if you know?’ has been introduced supporting children's sense of belonging. The children are invited to place their photo onto the name tree.
Pre Prep’s learning journey is off to a flying start as they have begun to practise using scissors for a purpose and learning to follow instructions. This is a foundation skill that is taught by modelling the correct technique. We say, “Thumb goes on top, then open and close.”
Several children have shown an interest in zoo animal play. This interest has been extended through planned literacy and numeracy concepts. We noticed many of the animals have different patterns on their bodies as a group the children took turns recognising and classifying the animals into pattern groups.
Looking around the garden last week we found some plants had not been looked after very well and needed some care. We decided that the best place for the plants to grow was not on the ground, everyone promised to look after them better.
Where to next?
Take note of plants that have grown
Look after the worm farm
Use the worm farm juice to feed our plants.
We began naming and finding circles, triangles, rectangles, squares and stars, extending on our mathematical concepts. We made some very beautiful artwork using the shapes! To extend our focus on ‘All About Me’ the opportunity was offered to use some shapes to create a house and draw your family members that you live with.
Please continue to bring in your show and share bags so we can fill up the class's family tree with our family photos.
