The first semester of 2021 is now complete and with the change of semesters TMC is welcoming some new teachers - Mr O’Neill, Mrs Power and Ms Boyd. Since they are starting this late into the year it is only fair that we help everyone out with getting to know them.
Mr O’Neill came to Australia after teaching in the UK at Westlands School. As well as his education degrees, he also has a degree in law. At TMC he teaches Science, and can also teach civics, law and IT. Mr O’Neill said he chose to teach at TMC because it is a small school and has a nice school community and he likes how everyone works hard at what they do. Since Mr O’Neill only came to Australia in January he likes to go out sightseeing and visiting beaches, he also enjoys tennis, reading and going out for nice food.
Mrs Power comes to us from Holland Park State High School in inner city Brisbane. She currently teaches Year 12 Essential English, Years 8, 9 and 10 HPE, and even Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 PE. She said that she came to TMC in order to inspire students in the rural areas of the mountain and wants to bring her positive and shiny outlook to the school. She also says she enjoys a mixture of teaching inside and outside of the classroom.
Ms Kerry Boyd is our new Year 1 Val teacher who is co-teaching with Mrs Fern. Ms Boyd has many years experience in Prep class rooms and was previously at The Southport School. We are excited to have Ms Boyd join our school community and know that 1 Val will love their teachers.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to these teachers and hope that they enjoy their time with us.

Say hello to our new member of TMC! We are lucky enough to have an echidna who lives around the campus.
Did you know a baby echidna is called a puggle? Or that they are one of only two species of mammals in the world that lays eggs? They are toothless animals with a tongue that's around 15cm long! One final fun fact is that their spikes are actually long, tough, hollow hair follicles.
Mrs Stevens. Head of Secondary
Please be aware that due to the Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 28th July, the Snack Shop will be closed.
Student lost property can now be collected at recess (11am) or after school. Lunch boxes and drink bottles will only be held for a two week period. We strongly recommend that families check that all uniform and other items are clearly labelled with students' names.
During the first week of the holidays, Year 11 students, Talia Criss and Lachlan Williams spent five days at Gold Coast University Hospital completing work experience for their dual qualification of Certificate II in Health Support Services and Certificate III in Health Services. Students both worked on wards at the hospital and completed tasks alongside staff, including making beds, patient observations and helping with procedures.
Both students found the experience both rewarding and eye-opening, and it was a great way to finish their studies.

On 4th August, our best mathematicians from Year 7 and Year 8 will take part in the QAMT (Queensland Association of Math’s teachers) Maths quiz for 2021.
We are holding the event on campus and are looking forward to challenging our students. In teams of 3 or 4 students will attempt 5 rounds
Session 1: Estimation;
Session 2: Speed;
Session 3: Written Problems;
Session 4: Individual questions;
Session 5: General Maths knowledge
The top 2 teams will then go forward to the Regional and (hopefully) State finals later in the year.
This is going to be a fantastic event where our students work together, solve problems and have fun together.
Winners will be announced in the newsletter on 6th August

On the 19th of July 2021, students took time to participate in rehearsals of Pinocchio. We have interviewed a couple of people to see what they did while they were there. The first person we interviewed was Annabelle Holmes. She is in Year 6 and in the Pinocchio play she played the old women and blue fairy. She had lots of fun spending time with her friends and being able to act and have lots of fun.
There was a lot of time and effort to put this play together with the costumes and all the equipment too. We would like to thank all the teachers and students for their participation and to name a few Mrs Michelle Criss, Ms Ruth Visser, Mrs Deborah Horn, Mrs Felicity Addison and Ms Visser’s daughter, Zoe Adams who helped face paint for the rehearsals

The 2021 Readathon begins next week (Sunday 1st August onwards) and we are participating in this great cause once again as a school. Last year we were in the top 3 highest fundraising schools in Queensland and it would be fantastic if we can match and maybe even better that effort this year.
We encourage all students across the primary school to read as much as they can throughout August and get sponsored/fundraise to help raise money for families affected by multiple sclerosis. The students can also record/log the books they have read on their profile page, as well as reach milestones and earn badges etc. Prizes will also be awarded to the classes and students who read the most books and raise the most amount of money. While stocks last, students also receive a free t-shirt when they register. Please use the following link to sign your child/ren up to the Tamborine Mountain College School school page and then join your year level page (your teacher may have already sent the link to you to do this):
https://www.msreadathon.org.au/fundraisers/TamborineMountainCollege
Thank you for your support for this great cause and please do not hesitate to contact your teacher if you have any questions. Happy reading!

Prep made a fabulous start to music in Term 3 by playing some familiar songs for the first time on Resonator Bells. All students did a wonderful job listening and playing their instruments together.
In addition our Kookaburra's Choir, comprising of Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students, have been working hard to prepare to perform at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. Please confirm your child's attendance and travel arrangements with Mrs Addison.
Mrs Felicity Addison
Over the school holidays, 25 enthusiastic Art students attended Art Camp. The first two days were spent learning dry brush oil techniques with Artist and Teacher Stuart Mattress. Sadly, our third day had to be postponed due to the Covid lockdown. We plan to run our third day of Art Camp in the next block of school holidays, Monday 27th September - Mixed Media techniques with Cheryl Boody.

Hannah Dalton obtained 2nd Gallery People’s Choice and 2nd Senior School Challenge in the recent d'Arcy Doyle Awards. Out of hundreds of votes, only 2 votes separated first and second in the People’s choice vote! Well done Hannah.
