On Wednesday the 21st of April, we had the pleasure of watching our skilled students and staff in TMC’s rescheduled high school talent show. Here on the secondary campus, our talent show has been highly anticipated and it’s safe to say that our expectations were nothing but exceeded.
The talent show started with our wonderful teachers and staff members performing their annual act; this year being a lively 80’s dance, choreographed by Mrs Jacka, called “Monkey See, Monkey Do”. The teachers danced to the song Dance Monkey by Tones and I, acting as if they were following an instructor (Mrs Jacka) in a dance lesson. Each teacher’s costume consisted of stereotypical 80’s aerobic styled clothes with a mask of another teacher's face.
Following the teachers’ act was Tannaya Bartlett who showed off her amazing singing gifts by performing I was Here by Beyoncé. In addition, Scarlett Small sang Imagine by John Lennon. Her graceful singing truly blessed the audience. Trinity Carmichael played A Thousand Years by Christina Perri on the piano. Her performance was followed by immense support and praise from the audience. Cece Knight rhythmically and delicately danced her own composition Five Feet Apart performed to an ensemble of different songs. Ryan Butler performed an extreme sword routine, shocking the audience with his talents and ability to leap, spin and kick all whilst twirling a deadly katana. Lastly, Elke Schon sang “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars supported by Anna Dyson playing the piano. Each of these acts were unique and special in their own way and made this talent show a most enjoyable event.
Finishing the show off was this year’s Year 12s bringing an unforgettable dance that was lighthearted and fun and again drawing a massive round of applause from the audience. The dance included a variety of songs including “Baby”, by Justin Bieber and many more.
After a tough decision made by the judges, Mrs Melbourne, Mrs Stephens and Mr O’Loughinour, TMC 2021’s winners were finally revealed. Runners Up was awarded to Cece Knight, a skilled dancer who truly earned her place. Our winners were Elke Schon and Anna Dyson. When asked about their performance, Elke and Anna described the feeling of being on stage as exciting and fun and how they had wanted to perform with each other for sometime. They have apparently been practicing for about a month, with this show being Anna's first and Elkes second public performance. Regards to their win, Elke and Anna stated that they felt a mix of confusion, shock and surprise. They were asked about their favourite part of their act, to which they answered was the bridges between the verses. The girls also mentioned that their favourite act by another performer was the sword routine by Ryan.
Congratulations to the winners. For their achievements, the two acts received JB-HI-FI vouchers to spend as they please. However, these weren’t the only prizes on offer, as each of the performers received a voucher to IPlay at Coomera Westfield.
The talent quest in its current form began 12 years ago and has been coordinated by Ms Green. The yearly event was held so students could showcase their talents that don’t necessarily relate to school activities. Ms Green revealed that, while practicing for the teacher’s act there is always a lot of laughter. Ms Green also revealed that every year she becomes teary when watching the students perform and is always extremely proud.
Overall, our 2021 TMC’s Got Talent was an outstanding success. We are filled with delight and so proud of every performer. We wish to thank our wonderful team of organisers, Ms Green, coordinator of the entire show, Cece Knight, choreographer of the Year 12 performance and Ryan Adam, in charge of technology. We are sure that we speak for the TMC secondary school in saying we are highly impressed by the 2021 TMC’s Got Talent and cannot wait to see what our brilliant students and staff have in store for next year.
