This term, TMC’s Leo Club has been busy preparing and planning events around the college. Leo Club is designed to help students gain leadership skills, while being given the opportunity to help out the local community and school.
One of the current plans for this term is a colour run, which will be held around half way through the term as part of Natural Disaster Awareness Week. The event will include obstacle courses, as well as a water balloon fight.
Another current plan is a food drive, which will be held sometime towards the end of the term, as well as the construction of the Leo Club official t-shirts, which will be designed by the students themselves.
I am sure we are all so excited for these upcoming activities and events, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds in store for Leo Club
Public Speaking
This week has seen TMC students from Years 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 compete in the heats of the 2021 AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition. The comp requires students to develop and deliver a speech focused on a topic from a wide variety of esoteric and broad subjects. Year 5 students spoke for 4 minutes, Years 6, 7 and 8 students spoke for 5 minutes and the Year 9s spoke for 6minutes. The competition is judged on the content and construction of the speech, the use of figurative and rhetorical language and the students' ability to present an engaging and entertaining speech.
This year the school was represented by a large number of students including:
Year 5 - Isobel Stevens, Cassi Brownlee, Ariana Stevenson, Aria Ambridge and Skye Pertersen
Year 6 - Archie Antonovich and Lucus Regec
Year 7 - Ava Byrnes, Emma Anderson and Mikayla Lagana
Year 8 - Nick Brennan and Finley Greig-Byrne
Year 9 - Lily Parker, Zara Woodrow and Mikayla Callow
At the end of each heat between 2 and 4 students were selected to compete in the finals. TMC is proud to announce that Ariana Stevenson 5 Val, Emma Anderson 7 Vic and Ava Byrnes 7Vic, Nick Brennan 8 Vic, Finley Greig-Byrne 8 Val, Zara Woodrow 9 Vic and Lily Parker 9 Val were successful in their respective heats and will compete in the finals on Tuesday and Thursday next week. The whole school will be behind them as they carry the torch for TMC with pride.
Of course I would also like to congratulate all the students who took part this week. Public speaking is , as we all know, one of the hardest and scariest activities we do at school, so just getting up there and giving it a go makes all the students involved winners. Stay tuned for more results next week.

Day for Daniel Fun Run Funraiser Prep - Year 8
We will be holding the Day for Daniel FUNraiser Fun Run this year on Friday, October 22. We’re doing it in support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, with funds helping them achieve their mission of keeping kids safe in Australia.
About the Day for Daniel FUNraiser
The Day for Daniel FUNraiser promotes awareness for child safety while raising funds for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The Foundation works tirelessly to educate communities on child safety strategies and support victims of crime involving children. The Fun Run is set up at school as an obstacle course and when we last held the event in 2019 the children had a great time going through the different challenges.
Children who raise money are able to go in the Fun Run and will be eligible to earn prizes - please see the attached prize chart. For raising just $10, students will receive a reward for their effort. The more they raise, the better the reward!
How Does My Child Fundraise?
All fundraising is completed online, so please create your child's profile at https://d4dfunraiser.com.au/. Share your child's fundraising link through your social media, email and even text. All donations are tax deductible. Remember, the money raised will help the Daniel Morcombe Foundation raise awareness, so please share your fundraising link far, wide and often!
What will the money raised go towards?
This year the Foundation is hoping to raise $150,000, which will allow them to create new educational programs to keep kids safe. It also means that no child victim of crime will need to pay for counselling through the Foundation. This program can educate millions of Australian children, so we hope we can help them get there! If not, the money raised certainly won’t be wasted. In fact, $1,000 provides counselling for one young victim of crime, $2,000 - funds 20 schools with resources to help Keep Kids Safe and $25,000 funds the creation of one Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson, which is free for everyone and educates children on relevant child safety.
Ordering Prizes – ALL PRIZES MUST BE ORDERED ONLINE
Make sure you keep an eye on the website, as it will tell you when to order your prizes. If you have any questions, please call the FUNraiser team on 1800 386 786.
Thank you, good luck and happy fundraising!
Congratulations

2021 Scenic Rim Youth Leadership Program
On Wednesday 16 students from Year 10 were chosen to participate in the 2021 Scenic Rim Youth Leadership Program. This is organised and run by Lacey from the Scenic Rim Regional Council along with Australian Olympian Selina Scoble. Students spent the day learning about their personality types and how to be effective leaders while taking part in hands on learning activities. Students very much enjoyed the day and learned a lot about themselves and about how to lead others.

Pre Prep Transition Visits
The Prepreps braved the wet weather to attend their first transition to school visits in Prep VAL’s class. They were oriented to learn how to cross over the pedestrian crossing in the carpark, where the toilets, bag racks and classrooms were situated.
We were welcomed by Ms Browne and Mrs Simmonds and a smiley class of Preps who were assigned to each of our Prepreps to buddy with them to take part in a variety of table top and role play stations.
Thank you Prep for hosting us, we certainly enjoyed our time with you.
Kindy
While Pre Prep was away at Prep, Kindy children who will be transitioning to Pre Prep next year experienced sometime in their new classroom exploring experiences finishing with a story read by Mrs Fernandez.
Transition visits support children as they move across environments developing the sense of self and while developing their confidence they know what is coming next in their learning journey.
OSHC
Hello from our OSHC children. After a very fun and eventful Vacation care program we’re off to a great start to Term 4. As always within the first week of term I have discussed with the children what they may like to focus on for the term. This term we seem quite interested in being competitive with some suggestions of Sand castle building competitions, plus physical and game style competitions as well. We’ve already started some of these in our first week with balancing and hanging competitions.
Food seems of interest as well requests to do some baking, ice cream making plus a redo food tasting activity we did in term 1. There was also a suggestion of a favorite food sharing afternoon which we have decided may be better for our next vacation care program instead.
Some of the other suggestions were more creative such as sewing and beading even a scavenger hunt. As this is a short term it seems we are going to be very busy!
But to kick it all off for the next 2 weeks we are going to be working on our additions to the scarecrow for the schools entrance in this year's scarecrow festival our additions will be a crab, a cow, a lumpy toa some flowers and crows. Very ambitions so we will see how we go!. If you have any ideas or suggestions we are always willing to accept any advice you may have.
