Parents and families play a pivotal role in fostering and supporting their children’s engagement with school work at home. Here are some ways to promote engagement as we begin Term 4:
- Establish daily routines to create consistency and structure
- Show interest in the child’s learning by asking detailed questions about their day
- Encourage curiosity and learn together about school subject topics
- Set realistic goals and celebrate all wins, no matter how small
- Create a designated study space
By demonstrating that learning is a lifelong journey, parents and families can inspire enthusiasm for learning and personal academic success.

On Wednesday, the TMC chess club had the fantastic opportunity to spend the day being coached by chess extraordinaire, Michael Bouchard, from Gardiner chess. The morning involved learning new defence and attack skills to improve student's beginning, mid and end games followed by a TMC Chess Club tournament in the afternoon resulting in Eamon S reigning Supreme Chess Champion of TMC. A great day was had by all! Tuesday lunch Chess Club is now open to years 5-12.

Last week two TMC students, Lachlan B and Blake H participated in work experience with Riviera. Lachlan completed one week in the laminating and fibreglassing area and Blake completed one week in the mechanical department.
Lachlan has given an account of his week with Riviera.
"My time doing work experience was very enjoyable. The supervisors and other Boat Builders displayed Riviera's values and shared a very high level of respect for the company. While most times people go into work experience they would be handed a broom and told to sweep the entire time, this was not the case for me. I was shown from the start how the boats were built. I was given hands-on experience with fiberglassing and laminating, this involves rolling the fiberglass sheets onto the boats. Even though I was there for only four days, the knowledge I've gained is far greater than any other company I've worked with. By completing this work experience I will be now eligible to be employed as an apprentice for 2024".
Work experience is a great way to gain hands-on experience in a field and is open to all students from years 9-12.
Mrs Peita Parker-Browne
This week Pre - prep experienced, ‘What it’s like to be a Prep student!'
Walking to Prep and meeting Ms Ryall and Ms Hiron. Forming a circle, Pre Prep listened to the story ‘Rainbow Fish’ before creating a fish where they demonstrated their amazing collage and cutting skills. Mrs Weymouth even suggested that the children have been working at writing their names this year so would be able to add their own names to their work.
Part of this visit this week is taking a look at the different areas that might be similar or different to Pre Prep. Mrs Weymouth and children explored where the bathrooms, bubblers, playground and drink bottle station is situated. The difference in the bathroom is that there is a boy and girl toilet and the bags are left outside the classroom on bag racks! For the children having a craft activity and story that they have listened to before was familiar and not too challenging, to see that it is a not too different space to their current classroom. Supporting emotional development and taking away worries of the unfamiliar is an important transition to the school process.
The children are looking forward to another visit next week!
