Please be mindful when parking in our car park that the yellow-painted path that runs through the middle is for our children to walk along. Try to leave a nice space between the cars (as per the picture). If you have a tow bar, please remember to leave some extra room so that doesn't cross the path.

The following information is from the World Health Organisation and helps dispel some of the false information people may have heard about mask wearing.
FACT: The prolonged use of medical masks* when properly worn, DOES NOT cause CO2 intoxication nor oxygen deficiency
The prolonged use of medical masks can be uncomfortable. However, it does not lead to CO2 intoxication nor oxygen deficiency. While wearing a medical mask, make sure it fits properly and that it is tight enough to allow you to breathe normally. Do not re-use a disposable mask and always change it as soon as it gets damp.
* Medical masks (also known as surgical masks) are flat or pleated; they are affixed to the head with straps or have ear loops.

This week our Preps celebrates 100 Days of Prep by dressing up in old-fashioned clothes and exploring the concepts of time and history.
The Preps asked Year 1 to join them so they could form a big number 100 on our new Primary basketball court.
The 2021 MS Readathon is well underway and we have lots of students and families involved at TMC. Many students have registered and received their free t-shirts and packs, fundraised and read lots of books! We have surpassed our school fundraising target now...several times! We have now raised over $4000 as a school! Well done everyone and keep up the great work! The challenge runs until the end of the month. In Pre-Prep the children have been self-selecting provisions to create patterns, count and sort items into groups. In literacy we have continued revises sounds/letters before we move onto the next Jolly Phonics Phase.
Pirates have continued to be of interest a highlight has been creating boats and following simple steps to create a Pirate hat using an instruction sheet. Every day we sing a days of the week song which has sparked some discussion about the months of the year. This awareness is children developing skills around our active learning outcome and a numeracy concepts of time.
The Kindy children went on a colour scavenger hunt outside. Armed with their lists and paper bags they located and marked the items of their list. What's the time Mr Wolf, running races and Ring a Rosie have been other highlights.
We have been delighted with the couple of families who have hosted the ELC Bears at their homes. The effort you have gone into to sharing with us photos and stories of their adventures have been amazing! We would love to see now that lockdown is over your visits visiting some different locations around where you live.

Fun with Numeracy
SIMPLE MATHS ACTIVITIES USING MANIPULATIVES
Counting bears or counting animals are a wonderful tool to have in your home for use now but also as your children enter Primary School. You can use them to sort, count or use them with patterns. These multicoloured manipulatives can be purchased cheaply online or in most toy stores.
Patterns with bears: In word create some simple pattern cards to help get your child started, like the ones in this picture, or simply download these ones via the link. The first page is an AB pattern, meaning two colours alternate in the pattern. The second page is an ABC pattern, meaning three are three colours in the pattern. For this activity, your pre-schooler will set the coloured bear on top of the matching colour to create a pattern. On the ABC pattern cards, the last circle is left empty. That is for your child to tell you what colour it should be.
Sorting colours with bears: Another way to use these tools is for sorting activities. Sorting is a key mathematics skill and these activities provide the foundation for early numeracy learning. Children can sort the bears into colours, if you have different animals, they could sort them into types of animals too. You can download and print both activity cards via the link below. Fun with Literacy
WRITING LETTERS IN SALT
Learning to write letters can be frustrating for children if they make a lot of mistakes. This activity is low stress and an encouraging way to learn. Making a salt tray is simple. Grab any tray and fill it with enough salt to just cover the bottom. It helps if the colour of the tray contrasts well with white. (Hint: a baking dish can make a great salt tray!) Add just enough salt to cover the bottom of the tray. Too much salt will make it difficult for your child’s letters to be seen. Show your child how to write letters in the salt tray using their pointer finger.Physical Wellbeing
SUPERMAN RACE
Lay in a line on your stomach and take flight – just like your favourite superhero! Once you’re laying down, lift your arms up so that your upper chest comes off the ground too. Hold that position. Who can hold it the longest? Maybe you have to lean to one side to go around a building, over a bridge…*Tip: Try lifting your legs or your arms and legs at the same time for an advanced workout. This exercise is perfect for strengthening the backside of one’s core. It works to stabilize your back, glutes, hamstrings and even your shoulders.
Indigenous Perspectives
Last Week at the Early Learning Centre we celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with ‘Children’s Day.’ – August 4. This was a chance to celebrate the strengths and culture of their children. The theme for 2021 is ‘Proud in Culture, strong in spirit’. Find out more.Even in a lockdown it did not prevent us in celebrating creating a tree of hands with a small group. We plan to add to this over the coming weeks. It has pride of place at the front of the building in the foyer.
KEEP AUSTRALIA BEAUTIFUL WEEK – AUGUST 16 -22
The theme for 2021 is ‘Ditch plastic’ our beautiful country needs help to protect its precious biodiversity. Plastic that ends up in nature can take up to 500 years to decompose and can harm animals that ingest it. So, we’re calling on all Aussies to make a pledge to ditch a plastic item for Keep Australia Beautiful Week. Make your pledge today.The ELC will do our part by exploring this idea while checking our grounds to see how we can assist us all in keeping our community beautiful!
