Mr Horn is Shaving the World!
After three and a half years since my last haircut, I have made the decision it is finally time to make a difference and do something worthwhile with these luscious golden locks!
This November I am taking part in the World's Greatest Shave to raise money for families affected by leukaemia. Leukaemia is a cancer of the blood forming cells found in the bone marrow. Leukaemia affects more than 3500 Australians each year and is the most common diagnosed cancer for people under the age of 24.
All money raised will help support families as they navigate the enormous practical and emotional challenges of a blood cancer diagnosis. Along with the shave, I will be donating my hair to Sustainable Salons who in partnership with Australian wig makers, will turn my hair into a wig for someone in need.
The support so far has been amazing!!! So many generous people have donated already and together they have already surpassed my initial fundraising goal of $1000, so I have revised the target to a very achievable but absolutely life changing $5000. To add to the fun, if we as a community can hit this target, I will undergo a full transformation and my beard will go too!!! No hair, no beard - What do you say TMC? Can you give a little support to help those suffering with leukaemia? Hit the link below or scan the QR code and follow the link.
The Tamborine Mountain College Student Representative Council (SRC) came together to commemorate and remember those that fought in the war. At school, 2022 captains, Madelyn G and Lachlan W laid TMC’s wreath, in honour of those that fought for us.

Every year on the 11th of November, we take the time to remember friends, family and ancestors who sacrificed their lives to serve and protect Australia. We do this by holding a minute's silence at exactly 11am, which represents the moment when the Armistice was signed, bringing an end to World War One.
Throughout Australia, and the world, we pause and reflect upon the heroic values the soldiers bestowed, as well as the sacrifice they made. Although Remembrance Day began in honour of the sacrifices made during WWI, at the conclusion of World War Two (1945), the Australian government renamed Armistice Day to Remembrance Day. This new name gave fresh meaning to the day and encouraged Australians to remember and commemorate those who sacrificed their lives during all wars. We pay our respects to the service men and women, past and present, throughout this historic day.
Many students and teachers wore the symbolic poppy representing resilience, as well as showing respect and support to soldiers, veterans and their families. Amongst the barren battlefields of WWI, the poppies were the first flowers to return and flourished in place of the fallen soldiers. As years move forward, this iconic flower continues to remain the symbol for Remembrance Day and is worn as a way of remembering and paying respects to our fallen heroes. In the year 2021, over 100 years on, we still honour our heroes, our veterans, our service men and women.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget.”

Success for Mason
Year 6 student Mason Bowker has been busy developing his music skills this year!
He recently completed his AMEB Grade 2 exam, in which students present a variety of repertoire and technical work. Mason has also been accepted into the Primary State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) at the Queensland Conservatorium. In December, he will join with other advanced primary musicians from around the region to learn a variety of music with renowned conductors, and perform in the Conservatorium Theatre. Well done, Mason!

Year 10 Science
This week, Year 10 students have been investigating the emission spectrum of metals. We have been applying this to the birth of stars and how scientists can determine the composition of stars based on colour. Inquiry-based learning is a key component of science, and we are so proud to foster the curiosity of our students.

Stay Hydrated!
With the hot and humid weather upon us, it is important for students to stay hydrated. We ask parents and guardians ensure their child is bringing a re-fillable water bottle to school each day and that they drink from it.
Thank you.

Year 6 Science
This week, the students of Year 6 visited the school's science labs to conduct experiments exploring chemistry. We have been learning all about the Periodic Table in Science classes in order to strengthen our understanding of states of matter, and ways that substances can change. Mr Horn and Bow invested a great deal of time into preparing the lab for our visit. They coordinated our movement through six investigations, and taught us so much about chemical and physical changes. Thank you, Mr Horn and Bow, for making our lab visit so enjoyable!
