We had some special mail arrive all the way from the U.K recently, another Early Learning Centre Larchfield Nursery in Woburn Sands contacted us wanting to exchange postcards to learn about living in Australia.
When we received our mail we noticed they did not wear a uniform like us so we talked through how our centre is part of a College so we wear a uniform like the big children do often having opportunities to take part in College events.
Pre-Prep and Kindy brain stormed some of Australia's unique wildlife, food and what life is like for us living on the Mountain and Gold Coast region.
Throughout terms 1 and 2 Pre-Prep had already explored many different aspects from our indigenous culture and the concept of living in Australia. We focussed on a topic ‘all about me’’ where we learnt about each other’s cultures finding out Mrs Walsh comes from the UK where the new pen pal friends live so brainstorming was a breeze activating on this prior knowledge.
Going on walks, visiting the beach, having BBQ’s, sharing the name Wangerriburra for the local indigenous people featured highly for our young community of learners as ideas.
With all of these wonderful rich discussions the children were eager to draw their ideas to send onto our pen pals with a letter and class photo, now we look forward to the arrival of return mail over the coming weeks.
