Exciting news for the snack shop. We are now offering morning tea "snack packs." There are 4 options available through flexischools, including a gluten free pack. These will be delivered to primary classrooms before morning tea (11 am) and secondary students can pick up from the snack shop.

We are also trialing more daily fresh options. Bacon and egg roll, pumpkin and feta quiche, gluten free brownie and chocolate croissant.  All these options will be available through Flexischools as of Tuesday 15th August.

Come one, come all to our annual celebration of Music, Drama and Visual Arts. ArtsFest 2023 has something for everyone, with live performances, music, art displays and workshops. What a fantastic night we had recently at our P&F Christmas in July dinner. The air was full of Christmas cheer and laughter with around 50 parents and friends coming along to join in the fun. There were fantastic costumes and the resident St Bernards even came in to see what all the fuss was about! A big thank you to everyone who was able to come along and to Kristin and Carly from the P&F for organising such a wonderful event.

Tamborine Mountain College has been fortunate enough to be a part of the Advanced Manufacturing: Careers of the Future program. This is an exciting collaboration between the Queensland Department for Manufacturing, Regional Development and Water, the Gold Coast Manufacturing Hub, and Makers Empire. During this program, students will be focused on developing relevant skills, including problem-solving, design thinking, engineering processes, and critical and creative thinking. Ruby T in Year 7 has already used her critical design thinking to assist the college, creating convenient paintbrush cleaners that have small, pointy cones at the bottom to help clean the bristles. Thank you, Ruby, for thinking about the college and how you can make a positive impact.

In Science this term, Year 8 students are delving into the exciting realm of physical sciences. Over the past weeks, our young scientists have embarked on an exhilarating journey, unravelling the mysteries of energy transformations.Imagine the thrill of a rollercoaster ride—the anticipation before the drop, the rush of wind against your face as you plummet, and the exhilaration as you twist and turn. Our students have explored the essence of this thrill by focusing on potential and kinetic energy. Through trial, error, creativity, and problem-solving, they designed and built roller coasters that brought potential and kinetic energy to life,

This week, the TMC Secondary Chess Club battled to the death (of the opponent's king) at the Term 3 Interschool Chess Competition at TSS. Our team members Thor F, Noah M, Harper W, Kai A, Shaun B, Caleb R and Jacob H fought with valour over 7 back to back gruelling matches. Congratulations to Kai and Jacob who achieved merit ribbons in their divisions. It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity for the students to further develop their tactical chess skills.

Our incredible Year 9 students embrace every moment of the Emu Gully adventure camp with boundless enthusiasm and teamwork. On Day 1, Group One delved into the world of buggies, honing skills for the future roads they'll conquer. Meanwhile, Group Two triumphed over challenges in a bridge-building activity, showcasing their unwavering determination and collaborative spirit.

Day Two was nothing short of extraordinary! Our resilient students conquered a thrilling mud challenge, carrying a "patient" and supplies through a muddy terrain filled with obstacles. They faced steep inclines, deep mud pits, and finally, teamwork triumphed as they communicated their way through the final stretch.

The spirit of adventure continued as groups swapped activities, with biking and bridge-building capturing imaginations. The day ended with the students impressing us all by preparing a delicious BBQ feast, a meal they shared with our dedicated teachers, followed by a heartwarming gathering around the fire. Ms. Black led the way in teaching everyone the art of crafting s'mores over the flames.

The final morning at camp was an inspiring culmination of teamwork and achievement! Students embraced a challenging team-building task, pulling cannons through muddy trenches – the ultimate test of their unity and determination. Our impressive Year 9s aced the challenge in under 8 minutes, a testament to their remarkable spirit and growth over the past 3 days. As we bid adieu to camp, we celebrate their accomplishments and the strong connections they've formed.

There is only one more school week left until the start of Book Week 2023! Starting on Monday August 21 with a book character costume day, Book Week celebrates literacy with activities at school.

During Book Week, we also hold a Book Fair, located in the admin building. On Tuesday in Book Week, students in the Primary will visit the Book Fair to have a look at the books and write their wish list. Parents will then be able to visit the Book Fair to purchase books at the following times:

• Wednesday 8:15 - 8:45, 2:45 - 3:20
• Thursday 8:15 - 8:45, 2:45 - 3:20

Book Fair has cashless sales only and every dollar spent is converted into Scholastic credits which TMC is able to use to purchase classroom resources. Thank you for your support of our Book Fair!

In Year 5, our students are diving into the topic of biodiversity. As we learn about its decline over decades due to human needs for land, housing, and industries, we also realize that humans hold the key to the solution. In HASS class, we're exploring the wonderful benefits of wildlife corridors, which support specific animal species and entire populations simultaneously.

Last Friday, our class ventured to Manitzki Park on Tamborine Mountain, where we took part in a hands-on experience – planting 40 trees. By creating more habitat, we're directly contributing to the wellbeing of local plant and animal species. A special shoutout to Judith Roland from Tamborine Mountain Landcare for orchestrating this amazing planting session.

The excitement was awesome, and we're excited about the impact our actions will have. We're not just learning – we're making a difference! Stay tuned for more ways our class learns about biodiversity, wildlife corridors and animal adaptations.

On Wednesday, TMC took two teams to play in our Term 3 HIA Primary Touch Football Competition. For many of our students this was the first time they had played on a full size field, let alone a competitive game of Touch Football. Both teams displayed a high level of skill, taking things they had learned from training and implementing them into the game. TMC 1 ended up winning the day, beating The Kooralbyn International School in the final. A big thank you goes to Kooralbyn for hosting the day, along with the staff who refereed and coached teams from the other schools. Thank you to Mrs Lewis who also stepped up on the late notice to assist with one of our TMC teams.

Students are now back into training for the KCC Touch Tournament to be held over two days at Southport in Term 4.

The Queensland Cake Decorators  Association are holding their Annual Cake Competition and Display at the Upper Coomera Community Centre, Upper Coomera on 8th - 10th September 2023 from 9am to 5pm.  

We are holding our annual cake decorating competition, which is  open to all ages and skill levels.  The competition entry closing date has been extended.  A copy of the competition schedule is attached.

Also during the 3 day event, we are holding all day workshops and 3 hourly workshops.  Prices and information for these workshops can be found in the attachment.

Our show is open to the general public.  For the cost of a daily entry fee, you can view our cake competition entries, wedding cake table entries and branch displays.  You will also have the opportunity to watch our free demonstrations, which are being held on the hour, every hour.  Daily entry costs for adults $10.00, students and pensioners $8.00.  Children under 6 years of age, free.
