This week our College community, including Deputy Mayor Jeff McConnell, celebrated and recognized the sacrifice and bravery of those members of our armed forces who lay down their lives to protect the freedom and way of life we enjoy in our great nation. MC'd by 2024 College Captains Lily P and Blake D, the ceremony paid tribute to all who have fought in wars past and present. Our Primary Captains, Riley B and Scarlett H, reminded us of the impact that war has on families and communities and the need for all of us to work towards a better world. A special mention to year 9 student Charlie C, a member of the Taribelang Bunda Nation, who presented the Acknowledgement of Country and 2024 Prefect Ethan H for presenting the Ode of Remembrance.

This coming Thursday is our annual College Awards Day. All students are expected to attend. Parents and guardians are required to accept the event via Parent Lounge, and indicate transport option for their child. If you haven't already. please ensure you have done this before Monday next week. 

The ceremony will be a wonderful celebration of our students' achievements this year. We look forward to seeing you there.

To be able to participate in the Fun Run on Tuesday 28th November students need to bring a white t-shirt, shorts of any colour and closed in shoes to wear for the Fun Run.  There is a possibility that the dye may stain the clothes so please make sure they are clothes you don't need to keep for best!  If students would like to wear their swimmers underneath their shorts and t-shirts they can.  This event is likely to get very very messy, which of course is part of the fun!

With exam season about to begin, here are some tips for students to be ready to go on the day of each exam.

1. Stay Healthy: Get adequate sleep and have a substantial breakfast. Avoid caffeinated drinks.
2. Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can affect cognitive functions. Drink enough water to stay alert.
3. Follow Instructions: Read the exam instructions carefully, and allocate time wisely among different sections or questions.
4. Stay Positive: Maintain a positive mindset. Confidence in preparation can boost performance.
5. Manage Time: Pace yourself during the exam. Don't spend too much time on a single question. Move on and come back to it if needed.
6. Check Your Work: If time allows, review answers for errors or unanswered questions.
7. Stay Calm: When encountering a challenging question, take a deep breath and approach it methodically. Skip it and come back if needed.
8. Stay Focused: Avoid distractions and stay focused on the task at hand.

To help with the new set up of our wonderful new Little Bookroom at TMC we are looking for parent volunteers on Tuesday 14th November and Tuesday 21st November from 9am to 11am to help scan, cover and catalogue our books.  Please contact Jules on adminassistant@tmc.qld.edu.au if you would like to help.

We are also looking for donations of new or new condition fiction books, especially Young Adult and picture books.

On Thursday, we welcomed our 2024 Year 7 students into secondary and hosted a successful Transition Day. Students were nervous at first, but had a fabulous time experiencing secondary life and getting a taste of their subjects for next year.  Everyone left with a smile on their face! We look forward to welcoming everyone back on their first day, on 22nd January 2024!

There will be a slight change to the Secondary School academic program in Week 9.  Our curriculum for those particular days will involve dynamic and movement-based educational activities. These activities will include problem-solving sessions via treasure hunts, mysteries, dramatic performances, indigenous games, guest speaker engagements, as well as movie making/stop animation. These learning experiences will take place in various locations around the school grounds and may involve physical movement.

Due to the programs we will be implementing, we will have all students switch to sport uniform attire for the Monday and Wednesday of Week 9 (27th and 29th of November). Please note that this adjustment is not directly associated with sporting activities taking place on these days, but instead, it aligns with the nature of our academic activities.

And also, don't forget that Tuesday is the Colour Run!

The Drama Excellence Program looked a little different this year, in the past it was a program that was only open to Senior Students, however for 2023 it became open to every year level across Secondary School.   This saw an influx of young students eager to join the team and tread the boards at the Zamia Theatre.  The fact that our cast was primarily made of Year 7 and 8 students meant that for many, this Year's performance of Masquerade was their first ever!  This year's performance was made all the more special as it coincided with the Zamia Theatre's 100th anniversary. It was such an absolute pleasure to work closely with the local community and this iconic building. We are so proud of our entire cast and crew and deeply grateful to every member of staff, community members  and our families that supported this great College event. 

Masquerade is a beautiful piece of Magical Realism, and it delighted us as directors to see our students' bring it to life. It truly was a memorable year.

But don't just take our word for it. Below are just some of the comments made by the students when asked what they enjoyed about being a part of the 2023 Drama Excellence program;

• Drama Ex was really the most wonderful experience. I loved getting to know so many incredible people it was a really special thing seeing how when we all came together we got to create this amazing performance and is an experience that I will never forget.  Annabelle VW.
• What I most enjoyed about Drama Ex was definitely the performances and being able to work together with everyone both onstage and backstage.  Emma-Jane S
• Drama Ex has been such an experience! I have loved working alongside a range of ages, personalities and talents. It is a time I will never forget. So many new friendships were made and it is a pleasure to know so many different people. On performance nights backstage was electric. It was something I've never done before and it was AMAZING!! It was so cool and I would repeat the experience again in a heart beat.  Isobel S 
• I really enjoyed the final performance, when we were all on stage and it was such a nice atmosphere, working with everyone to create the best show possible.  Grace S

Year 2 have been working on a diorama as an art piece this term. Over the past few weeks the students have built and painted an Australia animal out of clay. On Thursday the students built the animals habitat as a diorama. The students worked fantastically to paint their box and then fill it with items they had collected from home. Thank you so much to all the parent helpers that were able to come in and assist!
