Mr Hadley's Year 7 technology students have been challenged this term to design an Antarctic research station, taking into account insulation needs, snow build-up and avalanche safety. After trialing out different designs, each group will print their own models to see them in real life. The groups will then be able to refine their designs.
The students in Year 7 are loving this hands-on project!
Pre Prep has been learning all about technology and how this can assist us in our day to day lives. For their art piece the iPads were used to take a selfie. Pre Prep discussed how technology can help them document through photography. Investigating how we could get the image of themselves from the printer. When the photos were printed the next stage was to draw their self portraits. Throughout the year Pre Prep have explored the concept of self portraits which has enabled them to focus on adding more detail using first a black texta to draw their features then watercolor to paint over their drawings.
The other room has created a collaborative piece titled 'Our Home in the Mountains.' A reflection of the Mountain on which we live and learn. The children incorporated some sustainability principles creating recycled paper in parts of the artwork. Lots of different methods have helped to develop and extend fine motor skills.
Several self portraits and the landscape will be on display in the Hub over the weekend.
On Thursday the ELC children were very lucky to have the local Tamborine Mountain police visit to discuss how we can keep safe and the role police have in our community. The police had some great questions, 'How do we recognise the police and who isn't the police.' The children were very engaged, with a good understanding that they can be identified by their uniforms.
After a short talk, groups were taken outside to take an up close look at the police SUV vehicle. Ending the visit with a very loud siren blast!!!l
