Tomorrow is the College's Open Day. It promises to be a lot of fun with rides, games, displays, performances and food trucks. Please come along and enjoy the day!
Mother’s Day is a celebration that honors all things motherly. There have been many traditions of celebrating mothers for thousands of years across the globe. Our current modern version of Mother’s Day dates back to 1905 when Anna Jarvis first attempted to get the day marked as a national holiday in the USA. This day has grown world wide and now is a tradition celebrated during March or May. On the day, mothers are recognised for their love, support and important role in the lives of children. Here, at TMC we salute all mothers and appreciate everything they do to make the world a better place.
As a part of our celebration, the TMC P&F committee held a Mothers’ Day stall at the school on Wednesday. Despite the heavy rain, primary students flocked to the stall to buy their mums a special gift for this Sunday.
When asked, President of the P&F, Rebecca Kesby stated that she had been running the stall for 4 years now, however the stall has always been a part of the TMC community. “We do it to celebrate mums and what they do for us.”
The stall was full of exciting gifts chosen from local and not so local sources. These included candles, oil burners, teacups and espresso cups, wax melts, jota pads (to jot things down) and fun and yummy goodies. One of the most popular gifts was pineapple cups, which sold out within 40mins. All proceeds of the stall go to supporting the TMC P&F and through them the students of the school.
Over the next two weeks, students from Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be involved in NAPLAN Online testing. This will be the first year that TMC has completed these tests online, rather than on paper, and we wish all our students the best for the challenge ahead.
Earlier this year Emily Broxton created a turtle as an ocean cleaning 'truck' for the Toyota Art Competition.
Students are also working towards the Zart 2021 theme; Our Celebration of Australia, entries are due from the 14th June. There are six year level categories with prizes ranging from $250 Zart art & craft vouchers to a $450 Zart art & craft voucher.
Please email Mrs Criss mcriss@tmc.qld.edu.au for more information regarding Primary entries.

On Thursday, Students in year 10 attended the Gold Coast Career Expo at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Throughout the day students were able to meet with local employers, training providers such as Tafe Queensland and universities like Griffith, Bond and Southern Cross. This was all done to help students develop an understanding of and direction towards their future careers.
Mrs Peita Parker Brown, TMC's VET Coordinator organised the excursion and graciously made herself available to answer a few questions.
What is the purpose behind the careers expo?
“For students to get direct access to Universities and Tafe, and allow them to ask specific questions.”
What are the Benefits for the students?
“[The day] allows students to ask questions specific to their desired course and to get information directly from training providers and potential employers.”
How do you and other teachers at TMC help students with their career plans in such turbulent times?
“[We help by] trying to give them as much information as possible and by trying to get information early to them in their schooling life.”
We hope that all the students who attended were able to gain some important information regarding their career paths and hope that the students all had fun while they were there. Any student who would like to attend this event outside of school can find further information at https://www.studygoldcoast.org.au/work/careers-festival. The event runs until Saturday afternoon.
During our Art lesson this week, the Year 1 and Year 2 classes started exploring warm and cool colours. They looked at the colour wheel and some examples of how artists experiment with warm and cool colours to create artwork. The children made their own colour wheel to use as a reference throughout the term as they create their own pieces of art. This is a fun unit for the children and they really enjoyed painting in the beautiful sunshine yesterday.
