The Primary and Secondary SRC members are organising a dress up day to raise goods and funds for the AWLQ. Instigated by the students, the dress up day encourages students to dress up in costume of an animal of their choice.
Normally, we would ask students to bring in a gold coin, but for this event we ask all students involved to bring in much needed items for the AWLQ for either dogs or cats:
Students can either opt to dress in an animal costume or wear a shirt with a picture of an animal. This is NOT a 'free dress day' - all students participating should wear clothes with the animal theme. The secondary students will also be able to be involved in a bake sale on the day.
Please bring the donations to your Form teacher as soon as you like.
Thanks to Liam in Year 4 for the poster!

Last week as part of their assessment, Year 10 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation students took over teaching a year 6 PE class, and they loved it! As part of their certificate, the year 10's need to coach sporting skills to younger students, and year 6 happily volunteered. Students were involved in a rotation of basketball and soccer and were taught new skills by the older students. All the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the year 10's are looking forward to trying their coaching skills with younger grades in the near future.

This week saw our Junior A debaters take on Trinity Lutheran College in the Third Round of the Gold Coast Debating Comp. This was the teams first attempt at Short Prep debating, which sees them receive the topic on the afternoon of the debate and only have 1hour 45 minutes to discuss, plan and compose their team's case line, arguments and rebuttals; a hefty task to say the least. This week's topic was that Disney films give children false expectations. The TMC team, with Izzy S as first speaker, Jasmine D 2nd speaker, Skye P 3rd speaker, Ariana S as Chairperson and James H as reserve, had the affirmative position and were again successful in proving their case. That makes 3 wins in a row for our young but experienced Yr 7 team which is an exceptional achievement. If you would like to see our debaters in action, then come on down to the College Open Day on the 13th May where our teams will be battling it out against each other in a showcase debate.

Good news - the College has received all required release documents for our new classrooms! Now that TMC has possession of the buildings there is still work to do. Over the next couple of weeks, the College will prepare the rooms for our Year 3 & 5 classes to move in. An opening ceremony will held be at 11am on Open Day. Parents are welcome to come to the cutting of the ribbon at the bottom of the stairs and have a look through the doors and windows of the new rooms.
While an exact date for the first lessons in the classrooms cannot yet be given, the College expects to see classes move in fairly soon after Open Day.
Year 1 had a very special guest for our Mystery Reader this week. Mrs Stevens read a beautiful book called, ‘You are enough’ which had a very important message about how being different is great and being different is what make you YOU. Thank you for reading to us Mrs Stevens.

On Thursday 27th April, the students of Year 6 visited the Queensland museum. This term, we are creating museum displays about fictional islands! The trip to the museum provided us with plenty of inspiration for the creation of artefacts, models, and interactive elements (using digital media).
We were captivated by special exhibits including the “Dinosaurs of Patagonia”, “Connections across the Coral Sea” and the “ANZAC Legacy Gallery”. The day ended with an exploration of the Discovery Centre, which was the perfect experience for aspiring curators! There was an extraordinary range of flora and fauna displayed in many different ways.
We look forward to seeing what our clever and creative students produce this term!

This year Mr Fern is trying something quite different for auditions for the Primary Talent Show. 55 individuals and groups have signed up for the Talent Show which would take months if we wanted to watch all of those auditions and have call backs.
So instead all auditions will be video entries sent in from home. You have all of May to practice something, film it and send it to Mr Fern at sfern@tmc.qld.edu.au.
This is amazing because no one will miss out because they forgot to come to the audition or were away when they were meant to show up. Everyone will have more practice time. Mr Fern can watch all the entries at his leisure when the time arises rather than using every lunch time for a term. And we can have entries that are bigger and more elaborate than before.
Be aware that if you submit something spectacular like motorbike jumps, horse riding, archery or fire juggling that can't be performed on the stage, then you won't be eligible for the Final. The Final performances will need to be something that can safely be performed on the stage. But those big, amazing performances could be shown in a video montage during the Final to show off some of the amazing things our students do outside of school.
So whether you have signed up for the Talent Show or not you can now submit your talent to be considered. Everyone is welcome.
Mr Stuart Fern
The Year 4 students have been very busy so far this term, despite the short weeks! Students have been learning about symmetry in maths in the form of symmetrical and asymmetrical dance moves- and wow, were they creative!
In our English unit, we have been reading "Mr Stink" by David Walliams, the students can't get enough of this hilarious story and can't wait for the excursion to HOTA to watch the live production in a few weeks time.
We have also been practicing for the upcoming athletics carnival, with students rotating through various athletic skills during our PE lessons.
In outside college news, our 4 VIC student Ella M recently competed in the 2023 Gold Coast Open in Taekwondo in which 630 athletes competed from Australia and overseas. Ela won her first fight against a black belt and her second against a red belt to achieve gold! She also won a silver in Poomsae. We are very proud of Ella!
It has certainly been a fun-filled, jam-packed start to Term 2!

On Wednesday, 41 students travelled to The Southport School (TSS) to compete at the Hinterland Green District Cross Country Carnival. The TMC team consisted of students from Ages 10 up to 18. It was a beautiful day down at TSS, hot in the sun but with a cool sea breeze off the water. This is the biggest district team we have ever taken to a carnival and had students represent TMC in every single race! Our most number of students in a race was the 12-Year-Old Boys with 6 students in the event! Every single student completed the course and had the biggest smiles on their face. Most made their way down to the Snow Cone machine for a cool treat as a reward for their massive efforts. Congratulations to Madison C, Chloe C, Ashlee H and Charlotte FG who finished in the top 7 to make it to the Regional Carnival. An even bigger congratulations to Chloe C who placed 3rd and received a medal for the Open Girls 4km Race. Some amazing individual achievements for most of our runners. All should be super proud of their efforts, we look forward to our next District Carnival which will be Athletics in Term 3.
