The Push Up Challenge is a unique way to engage people in discussions and education about mental health. The challenge is to complete 3,180 push ups period of 25 days (1-25 June). The number, 3,180, represents each person lost due to mental health in 2019.
In Primary, Year 5 VIC are taking part in the Push Up Challenge this month. The aim is to complete 3,318 push ups over a 25 day period to raise awareness of mental health. 5 VIC have been reaching the daily target collectively and also doing their own push ups at home. Great job everyone, keep it up!
The Secondary school team consists of three staff and 23 students and have called themselves, Team TAMBO. Team TAMBO have decided to collectively aim for 33, 180 push ups. The team has completed 5,502 push ups just in the the first 4 days of the challenge.
It is amazing to see that TMC students are as passionate as the staff about mental health. They have been gathering twice a day to complete their push ups as a group. It builds camaraderie and a sense of fun at school. Team TAMBO is absolutely confident that we will not just meet our target, we will smash it!

Mark your diaries now to keep Saturday 4th of September free for our ArtsFest. This year the event will be a daytime event with plenty of opportunity to view the work our wonderful students produce from Pre-Prep to Year 12. The day will be family-friendly with food trucks and coffee van on site.
Mia Rosch is currently in Year 10 and working towards a Certificate II in Horticulture while completing a School-Based Traineeship working at Spectrum Nursery. Mia works one day per week and completes her training for her certificate as well as working on the weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity for Mia to gain experience in the working world and gain a Certificate II qualification which will contribute towards Mia gaining her Queensland Certificate of Education. Mia loves plants and aims to turn all of her teacher's classrooms and her bedroom into a jungle.

On Tuesday of this week, TMC students partook in the 2021 Year 7 and 8 Readers Cup competition. The competition, organised by the Queensland branch of Children's Book Council of Australia, was held at Saint Stephens College and involved 16 teams of up to five students. This year the teams had to read five books:
The TMC team, made up of Holly Hine, Finley Greig-Byrne, Ava Bynes and Scarlet Thompson, had to answer questions on the novels during five intense rounds. Points were awarded to correct or partially correct answers, with TMC being awarded a total of 24 points. This placed the team in a very respectable 7th place. A good effort for our students who had never completed this type of competition before.
A special thankyou must be directed towards Mrs Judith Carlyon who supported, trained and cheered the students on.

We asked Year 12 House Captain, Lana Bignell, why she wanted to be a leader at TMC and what that leadership position meant to her. Lana replied, "I applied to be a leader to not only open opportunities for myself for the present and future but also encourage students to do their best and try no matter if they think they will win or not. To encourage people to be more than they think they are. Being a leader strengthens my skills on a daily basis such as being able to listen and communicate with my teachers and fellow students. Being a leader has given me responsibilities and life skills that I will hold onto for the rest of my life as well as memories I have and am currently making with my fellow leaders that I will always cherish."
We are proud of Lana's efforts and are thankful she is part of our excellent Year 12 Leadership Team.

The lead up to exams can be challenging for both students and parents and some students can feel unsure of what to prioritise and how to best prepare.
With this in mind, Elevate Education, our study skills partner organisation, held another free parent webinar this week focusing on Exam Preparation to give parents practical strategies to help their child plan and prepare during this time. Elevate had over 6,000 parents tune in which was an incredible indication of just how challenging this time can be for Australian parents.
Elevate have extended access to the webinar. Parents can view it by clicking this LINK.
Elevate is hosting one final free webinar for Term 2 on June 16 which will focus on Stress and Wellbeing. In this session, Elevate will help parents understand how to recognise their child’s symptoms of stress and help them develop positive habits to enhance wellbeing.
Parents can register via this LINK.

In Music, Year 5 have begun to explore arranging a familiar song, Sea Shells, using Song Maker on Chrome Music Lab. Ava has shared her arrangement here. Some students have also started to create their own songs such as this song from Annalise. We are looking forward to arranging the Star Wars theme on Chrome Music Lab later this term. Students are thoroughly enjoying this creative process.

On Thursday night, students in Drama Excellence competed at the Gold Coast Drama Festival. Every year, students in Years 11 and 12 have the opportunity to join Drama Excellence and perform a production at the school and the festival. This year's play is called ‘The Call’. The play was entirely student devised with the scripts, movement sequences and music being planned and developed by the students.
On the night, students competed against other schools with the chance to win some awesome awards. TMC's tech crew, Ryan Adams, Alexander Stanford and Jack Wraith received an award for Best Technical Design along with Emma Sullivan who won Best Vocal projection and Lachlan Woodyatt who received the award for the Best Acting of Bad Acting.
After the performance some very positive feedback was given by the adjudicator. They described the performance as a "kaleidoscopic rollercoaster, which tugged on the audience’s heart strings from the very beginning". The adjudicator was also incredibly impressed by the fact that the students had devised the whole production themselves, stating that, “You should be very proud, because a brand new production has now entered the world”.
The competition will run until Saturday, with the awards ceremony occurring on Saturday night. However, if you were unable to attend the performance, you still have the opportunity to experience the rollercoaster with the students once again performing during Arts Fest in September.
We are all so proud of our students for all the hard work and dedication they have put in. We would also like to thank Ms. McQueen, Ms. Carlyon and Year 12 student Cece Knight for helping run the production, as well as all the hard work put in by the TMC Maintenance Team to help make this production possible.
