The Push-Up Challenge has kicked off at Tamborine Mountain College this week, aiming to raise awareness for mental health. Teams of staff across the campus and some senior students are banking push-ups daily from the 1st to 23rd June this year.
This year's ultimate goal for each individual participating is 3144 push-ups over the 23 days, a number which is based on the number of suicides in Australia in 2021. Each day the number of push-ups changes and is based on a mental health statistic.

Careers Festival
Thursday this week Year 10 students had the opportunity to visit the Gold Coast Careers Festival hosted by Gold Coast City Council at the Carrera Indoor Sports Centre. Students were able to chat with local employers, universities, TAFE Queensland, Queensland Police, the Australian Defence Force, and many more. This was a great opportunity for students to learn what different pathways are available and to start the SET planning process heading into their senior phase of schooling.

Prep to Year 2 Sports Carnival
On Wednesday a large number of students and parents turned out for TMC'S P-2 Athletics Carnival. Students started off the day with a parade in their House Groups, displaying a high level of enthusiasm and House Spirit. This was followed by the events, where students competed in a Bean Bag Toss, High Jump and a 50m Sprint. The day concluded with our House Tug of War Challenge, where Walton, Nicholls and Kyle faced off in Year Groups to test their strength and willpower. Another highlight was also our Parents vs Staff/Students Tug of War which was dominated by our Parents.
Thank you to all students who participated in events throughout the day. They all demonstrated enthusiasm and a willingness to give things a go.
A huge thank you also goes out to our Parents and wider community for showing up to support the students as well as our Year 6, 11 and 12 volunteers who helped the day run smoothly.
Students will find out the winning House on Monday at Assembly as well as those who finished Top 3 in High Jump being presented with their ribbons.

Year 1
Today, some of our talented Year One students from Miss Thompson's class visited Director of Teaching and Learning, Hanna Green, to share their 'out of this world' knowledge about the planets. Year 1 students have spent this term studying the Solar System in Science and were so excited to share their bookwork and discuss some facts about their favourite planet. It was fabulous to see our students reaching for the stars! I look forward to our next visit.

Early Learning News

27 May – 3 June is National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The ELC children took part in a variety of experiences as they contributed to the equity for all Australians as we towards our reconciliation journey as a community.
We took a close look at the flags explaining the importance and meaning behind them. They used the whiteboards to research stories and music. We looked at how Aboriginal women make baskets out of Paperbark and watched how to make traditional damper cooked underground. The children were given opportunities to discuss any knowledge they had with their peers and share stories. We used Paperbark, seeds, sticks, eucalyptus leaves and bush rocks holding them while saying our ‘Acknowledgement to country’ as a group.
“We promise to look after our land.”
The children were able to feel and smell the different plants which they also used as utensils for creative activities. We took part in the ‘Children’s Ground’, wear it 'Yellow' fundraising day and joined the college for a beautiful ceremony and walk around the school oval, holding our speech bubbles, “Hear our Voice,” we listened respectfully to the older children’s speeches and sang along with the Kookaburra choir.
During the Val group we discussed with the children why we had worn yellow earlier in the week and we worked together to create a beautiful piece of art. We all took it in turns to paint our feet and then we walked across either a yellow or red path which joined together at the end.
