Preparing for Secondary School

Our Year 6 students have recently begun a special lesson series focused on preparing for the exciting transition to Secondary School. Mr Andrews, Head of Secondary, and Ms Carlyon have been visiting our class to work through a transition booklet with the students. Together, we have been discussing hopes and fears, expectations around behaviour and uniforms, the structure of the school day, and what life in Secondary School might look like. Most importantly, these sessions are helping students feel informed, confident and excited about this next chapter in their schooling journey!

Camp

Our Year 5 and 6 students have returned from an incredible camp experience at Camp Goodenough in Bilambil, NSW, bringing with them plenty of stories, smiles and lasting memories!

Throughout the camp, students embraced new challenges, stepped outside their comfort zones, worked together and supported one another. They developed confidence, resilience, independence and stronger friendships, while having an enormous amount of fun along the way.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented our school, showing enthusiasm, positivity and a willingness to give everything a go.

Camp is always a wonderful opportunity for students to grow together and create memories they will treasure for years to come.

Book Week was a wonderful celebration of books, imagination and creativity, with everyone getting into the spirit and dressing up as their favourite character. Our students looked fantastic and it was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm throughout the school!

Excursion

Our Year 6 students had a fantastic visit to Sir Thomas Planetarium in Brisbane, bringing their Solar System learning to life through an immersive dome show and interactive astronomy exhibits. Students explored planets, constellations and the relationship between the Sun and Earth, making for an engaging and memorable Science experience.

Learning

English / Writing:
Year 6 have been developing their scientific writing skills by creating information reports. They have focused on using technical vocabulary, compound & complex sentences, language features and precise language, to communicate information clearly. Building on their Science learning, students will soon create their own exoplanet discovery profiles.

Maths:
We have completed our work on fractions and percentages, building students’ understanding of how different representations of numbers are connected. Over the coming weeks, we will explore Chance, conducting experiments and using fractions and percentages to describe probability.

HASS:
Over the next few weeks, Year 6 will explore Asia, investigating the diverse countries, environments and cultures across the continent, as well as Australia’s connections with the region through trade, migration, culture and communication.
