Year 3 - Term 3 Wrap Up!
Book Week
What a wonderful and exciting Book Week we had! Our classrooms were filled with creativity, imagination and a whole lot of book-inspired fun. It was fantastic to see our students proudly dress up as their favourite characters and share their love of reading with their friends.
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful families for the time, effort and creativity that went into the amazing costumes. From simple and clever ideas to incredibly detailed creations, every costume helped make the week extra special!
Most importantly, it was wonderful to celebrate the joy of books, reading and storytelling together. What a memorable Book Week! 📖💫
Primary Movie Night
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.
What a wonderful night our Year 3 students had at the Primary Movie Night! As part of our English unit this term, we have been reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate and exploring the topic of animals being held in captivity. The students have been developing their persuasive writing skills, sharing their opinions and considering different perspectives on whether animals should be kept in captivity.
After thoroughly enjoying the novel in class, the students were very excited to see The One and Only Ivan come to life on the big screen! The students brought along some cosy items for the cool mountain weather, as well as some special snacks to enjoy. 🦍💚
A highlight of the evening was comparing the book to the movie and discussing what was the same, what was different, and why certain parts of the story may have been changed for the film. It was fantastic to see the students use their knowledge of the novel to share thoughtful observations and opinions.
It was a lovely way to celebrate a story that has been such a wonderful part of our English learning this term!
Australian Red Cross Visit
This term Grade 3 students welcomed Ros from the Australian Red Cross for a special visit focused on disaster preparedness and resilience.
As part of the Red Cross Pillowcase Workshop, students took part in discussions and interactive activities designed to help them understand what it means to be prepared for an emergency. They explored the kinds of thoughts and feelings that can arise before, during and after an emergency and learnt practical strategies they can use to help themselves stay calm.
Ros discussed essential items that could form part of a personal emergency kit before receiving their own pillowcase to decorate and take home. Their pillowcases can now be used as the beginning of their very own emergency kit.
One of the key messages of the program is that children can play an active role in helping their families become more prepared. The workshop gave our Grade 3 students practical knowledge while also building confidence and resilience in a way that was engaging and age appropriate. Thank you Ros!
