CURRICULUM

Subjects

For Junior Secondary Years 8, 9, and 10, the College has a core curriculum.  These subjects are English, Maths, Studies of Society and Environment, Science, Art, Computer Studies, Drama and Physical Education.  Languages (Japanese, French, German and Chinese) are optional, usually chosen by students with a linguistic talent and can be studied with a supervisory teacher through the shared campus of Brisbane School of Distance EducationStudents have an enrichment program which often includes opportunities outside the classroom such as Commercial Cookery.

In Year Ten SOSE divides into separate disciplines of History and Geography in preparation for Senior Schooling.  For Senior Secondary Years 11 and 12, students choose one subject from each of the six lines, according to ability level, career prospects and interest.

Teachers hold weekly tutorials  for students for each subject.  Students are advised to maximise these opportunities to ensure complete understanding of concepts learnt and extend the learning experience.

Work Experience and School-Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships

Year 10 students participate in a work experience program at the College.  Chosen businesses take on College students for one week after careful consultation and planning through a Life Skills Course.  Many students use this as a stepping-stone to school-based traineeships and apprenticeships.  This is when students are released one day per week from school in Years 10, 11 and 12 to pursue employment and training in a recognised field/industry.

Certificate levels and educational credit points are achieved towards the Queensland Certificate of Education as well as traditional academic results and OP in Year 12.
